‘LIFE’ and ‘Queen of the Desert’ on various ‘Most Anticipated Movies of 2015’ lists

The Film Stage – LIFE
After premiering his latest drama, A Most Wanted Man, at Sundance last year, we thought director Anton Corbijn might return to Park City, but barring any last-minute announcements that looks to not be the case. Hopefully coming later this year, as scripted by Luke Davies, Life centers on the relationship between James Dean (Dane DeHaan) and Life Magazine‘s Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson), the latter of whom had been tasked with capturing the up-and-coming actor less than a year before his rise to stardom and tragic death. –Jordan R.
The Film Stage – Queen of the Desert
With rumors that it would arrive last year, the wait continues for Werner Herzog’s first narrative feature in half-a-decade, the story of legendary cartographer Gertrude Bell may be hitting theaters this year. Led by Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, James Franco, and Damian Lewis, Queen of the Desert follows Bell, a diplomatic explorer, who negotiated with Arab nations and helped establish the countries of Iraq and Jordan. Considering that Herzog is the man who gave us such epics as Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre, we’re looking forward to a return with what looks to be his most visually ambitious work in some time. With fall line-ups getting announced shortly, check back for updates. – Jordan R.

From Little White Lies

Directed by Anton Corbijn
Released 25 September, 2015
We still shiver when recollecting the luscious monochrome of Corbijn’s Ian Curtis pic, Control. Interim efforts may not have packed so intense a punch but the legacy of his debut lives on. The Dutch photographer created the effect of characters moving through a world so textured that it seemed to have its own pulse. For Life — the story of a photographer and his relationship with James Dean, Dane DeHaan plays the original rebel without a cause opposite reformed heartthrob, Robert Pattinson. Let’s see what he makes of them. SMK
Did you know Anton Corbijn bought his first camera when he was 18.

For his latest project Anton Corbijn has returned to the Hanseatic city. In Post Republic Life is currently preparing the color gradingfor the Australian-Canadian-German co-production.
“It’s wonderful to be here again,” says Anton Corbijn. Dutch director and photographer had last A Most Wanted Man shot inHamburg and was enthusiastic about the locations and the special atmosphere in the Hanseatic city. His latest film Life tells the story of Hollywood photographer Dennis Stock, gets to know in 1955 at a party the still unknown James Dean. A specialmeeting of the addition to the world-famous portraits of Hollywood icon, a wonderful friendship apparent.
The topic was very appealing to him, told Anton Corbijn, who became famous as a photographer mainly by its musicians portraits .Also on film, he has worked with artists and personalities; his first film ‘Control’, the life of Ian Curtis, the lead singer of theband Joy Devision.
Life is produced on the German side of Wolfgang Müller (Barry Films) and is expected to be released on the 60th anniversary of the death of James Dean in 2015 in German cinemas. The main roles play Dane Dehaan and Robert Pattinson. The Hamburg Film Fund Schlesig–Holstein has supported the film with € 250,000 in production.
Anton Corbijn talks about LIFE and Robert Pattinson with ‘Dazed’ magazine

In your films you’ve portrayed talented men who burn out young – Ian Curtis in Control, and now James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock. Are you interested in the myth-making process that happens around these guys?
Anton Corbijn: If anything, it’s unmasking because I always bring it down to very normal life. In photography I can imagine that people think I make images iconic, but with films I don’t think that’s the case. The film with James Dean is actually about the photographer. He’s the lead role, they just share screen time. I had a similar experience when I was young in Holland. I became the photographer of somebody who became the biggest rock star we ever had there (Herman Brood), so it was interesting to see how that balance works when I thought I was helping him and he probably thought he was helping me. It’s the same with this story.
[…]
Was it an easy process casting Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan in your upcoming film Life?
Anton Corbijn: Dane didn’t want to take a meeting with me initially, as he couldn’t see himself in James Dean’s shoes. But he was persuaded by a mutual friend, and said yes in the end. He’s fabulous, a very good actor. Rob was interested in the film because he really wants to prove himself and for me that was great for that role. If you look at the roles he’s taking on – like the ones withCronenberg – he really wants to do very different, non-mainstream films and get out of that pigeonhole.
