Robert Pattinson first appeared on movie screens in the 2004 movie adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray’s “Vanity Fair” and began garnering attention with his portrayal of Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.” However, it was not until the first “Twilight” movie was released in 2008 that Pattinson rose to the level of international heartthrob. The English actor was perfectly cast as Edward Cullen, the love interest of Bella Swan, and reprised the role in subsequent “Twilight” films.
Since his appearance in “Twilight,” Pattinson has managed to defy expectations and continually impress critics with his choices in roles and his diverse acting chops. Around the same time as “Twilight,” Pattinson played a young Salvador Dali in “Little Ashes,” and in 2012, he played the lead role in “Cosmopolis,” a David Cronenberg-directed adaptation of a Don DeLillo novel.
With the last “Twilight” installment well in the past, fans of Robert Pattinson may be wondering what is next for the rising star. The following films are a few of Pattinson’s upcoming projects.
“The Rover”
Robert Pattinson has already appeared onscreen with some formidable acting talent, but “The Rover” finds Pattinson acting next to “L.A. Confidential” and “Memento” star Guy Pearce. An Australian crime picture that takes place in the near future, “The Rover” is a very interesting project equipped with high-wattage star power. The film was directed by David Michôd, who only has one feature-length credit under his belt, but that film happens to be the excellent crime thriller “Animal Kingdom.” “The Rover” debuts at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival before making its way to a U.S. release in June.

Mulligan plays Nancy, a small town girl who callously leaves her boyfriend Jimmy (Pattinson) behind to chase a modelling career in New York City, breaking his heart in the process. To Nancy’s surprise, New York isn’t impressed by her and at 26, she’s back home waiting tables at the local diner. When she gets word that Jimmy has become a wealthy and successful criminal in Chicago, she tracks him down with a view to winning his affections, only to find crushing rejection. Fuelled by jealousy and an unquenchable thirst for fortune, Nancy finds Danny, a naïve pawn she can seduce and manipulate to her own ends and together they embark on a life of crime. Success comes fast, and leaves faster but nothing and no one will stand in the way of Nancy’s naked, dangerous and deadly ambition.
[…] So if Marsh plans on filming this mini series, with no official title yet, next summer, where does this leave Hold on to Me, his project with Rob Pattinson and Carey Mulligan?
“It’s going well.” Marsh reassure us. “I think about starting the shoot at the beginning of 2013 if our funds are secure.”Often compared to ‘To Die For’ by Gus Van Sant because of its pitch (a beauty queen kidnaps and buries alive a man formoney), Marsh points out that he finds the comparison appropriate even though “Boogie Nights will also be a model to Hold on to Me, ton wise. It’s one of my favorite movies cause it goes from dark to humorous in a second. Hold on to Me will be a dark comedy. My documentaries had humour – at least i hope – whereas my fictional works were heavier. This one will be more high-spirited.” An opus that might change Marsh’s carreer since it stars Robert Pattinson. “Robert is interesting. He knows where he wants to go and he wants to work on projects that might help him shape himself, like Cosmopolis. He uses his fame and his energy to help people, like me, make interesting movies. He has a lot of potential. When we met I loved his attitude towards the cinema genre. He liked the script and talked to me about it in an intelligent way. He’s going to be a great asset for Hold on to Me and I hope that with him on board, it’ll round up tons of teenage girls in the movies theaters to corrupt them. *laughs*”
Finally, Marsh revealed to us the name of the actor he covets to complete the casting: “I would like to hire an actor from the show Girls, Adam Driver. He’s an amazing actor, not very well-known. It would end up forming such a great triangle with Robert and Carey.”

EXCLUSIVE: As packages firm up for AFM, here’s one that will surely reverberate in Santa Monica. Robert Pattinson is signing on to star with Carey Mulligan in Hold On To Me. The film will be directed by James Marsh, who won an Oscar for the docuMan On Wire and followed with Project Nim.
Pic is based on a true story about a femme fatale who with her boyfriend kidnaps and ransoms the town’s richest man. They bury him in a box and things go horribly awry. Pattinson plays the flashy supporting role of the woman’s life love, Jimmy, who isn’t involved in the crime. The project was scripted by Brad Ingelsby.
Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales, Mark Roybal and Michael Pruss are producing with Alexandra Milchan. Also producing is Todd Field, who originally developed the film to direct, but stepped off to helm Creed of Violence for Cross Creek.
Pattinson adds this to an early 2013 schedule that will have him starring opposite Guy Pearce in the David Michod-directed The Rover, and he is also starring inMission Blacklist, the true story of the U.S. military interrogator responsible for discovering the location of Saddam Hussein in the hunt for the fallen leader. He is repped by WME and 3 Arts.
Pattinson will join Carey Mulligan in the previously announced “Nancy And Danny” which is now called “Hold On To Me.” But this isn’t some swoony romance. Pennedy by Brad Ingelsby (“Out Of The Furnace”), and set to be directed by James Marsh (“Project Nim,” “Shadow Dancer”) the story follows a money hungry woman, whose life didn’t turn out the way she wanted, who uses a man as a pawn to help land her high school crush in a get-rich-quick scheme. And that plan is to bury the town’s richest man in box and hold him for ransom, but of course, things don’t go as their supposed to.
The film also brings Pattinson into the orbit of another great filmmaker, Todd Field, who is producing the project after being originally attached to direct (he’s now focusing on “The Creed Of Violence”). Now before anyone gets too excited, this is a package project headed to the American Film Market which means if it doesn’t get some decent pre-sales, it ain’t gonna happen. But Pattinson is clearly done with blockbusters for the moment, and we like everyone involved, and given the talent on board, we don’t see why this can’t make a planned 2013 shoot.
