In an Interview posted today with Herald Scotland, Playwright Peter McDougall says Robert Pattinson is currently looking at a screenplay he has written:

Thinking of Rob 
It could be either a tragedy, or an Oscar for Robert Pattinson – depending on the script and the director – to take this role. It’s such a gamble to portray yet another unpleasant hero – after “Bel Ami” and – let’s face it ‘Edward’ as David Slade saw it. People found Edward in Eclipse slightly repulsive. NOT Robert’s fault, of course – but HE is the one that suffers the consequences. I wish him luck. He’s such a talented, but naive human being. Only time will tell which way he’ll chose to turn.
Hrmm. Not sure if I could watch this one without getting scared/upset… not my kind of movie. I hope it is successful if he decides to do it but I’ll have to sit this one out. Sad!
I agree that Edward in Eclipse was not good…I have watched the movie several times and holding my breath that they don’t mess up Breaking Dawn…I think he could pull of anything he does. Love him no matter what
If he takes this on that will give him an Oscar..he is serious enough with the work he is doing, he got nothing than praise from his colleges and critics [esp. in RM] In all his interviews he gave, I saw nothing than an intelligent , witty Person who knows what he wants and needs to do. His choice in Movies are clearly showing he wants challenge . I’m glad he is not one of the Guys who constantly pulls up his shirt to make up for the Smarts
This is very interesting, and surprising. If it turns out to be true and goes forward, then I will try to find and read the book.
If he took this on he’ll have completely broken out of the mold, maybe that’s the idea. If it stirs him to portray such an uncharacteristic role than I wish him luck.
If Rob accept to do to movie I will definitely read the book, the story looks good!!! 🙂

The story sound interesting and like nothing Rob has done before. Being an actor, he should be taking risks and not staying in the same mold. I hope this is true, much better than the role with Angelina Jolie
I believe that if Rob decides to take this project on, he will be brilliant and believable. He did a great job with Haunted Airman. It seems these unconventional roles are custom suited for him and I applaud him for not taking all the “pretty boy” roles. He is a classic and serious actor.
