First teaser trailer for ‘The Rover’ starring Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce, written and directed by David Michôd

the_rover_poster

THE ROVER is set in a world ten years following the collapse of the western economic system, where Australia’s mineral resources have drawn the desperados and dangerous to its shores. With society in decline, the rule of law has disintegrated and life is cheap. The film follows hardened loner Eric (Pearce), who travels the desolate towns and roads of the Australian outback. When a gang of thieves steals his car they leave behind the wounded Rey (Pattinson) in their wake. Forcing Rey to help track the gang, Eric will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that matters to him.

Brady Corbet talks about Rob and ‘The Childhood of a Leader’ at 9:30

Sundance is a place for discovery, where new talent can shine in front of an audience hungry for revelation. With their new film “The Sleepwalker,” co-screenwriters Mona Fastvold and Brady Corbet (she directs, he stars) have auspiciously debuted their creative partnership, which is already three screenplays deep. (He will direct their next feature, “The Childhood of a Leader,” starring Robert Pattinson, Tim Roth and Juliette Binoche, later this year, and a third project will follow.)

New Robert Pattinson interview with ‘The Wall Street Journal’   Leave a comment

Since premiering in Europe last September, Robert Pattinson’s steamy Romain Gavras–directed fragrance commercial for Dior Homme has generated more than 15 million views on YouTube. When the black-and-white short, starring the 27-year-old Twilight-saga heartthrob makes its American television debut in February, during the Olympics, that number should increase exponentially. Pattinson’s steely glances are being repurposed to promote Dior Homme Eau for Men, a fresh new grapefruit and coriander-spiked riff on the heady, iris-laden original scent that hits shelves exclusively in the U.S. in February.
“I like trying to do ambitious things,” says Pattinson. Pairing the Parisian luxury brand with Gavras’s “violent and visceral” approach was his idea. (The director’s infamous 2010 video for M.I.A’s “Born Free” was pulled from YouTube for its graphic content.) “That’s what got me really enthusiastic about the campaign, that [Dior] wasn’t shying away from anything.”Pattinson’s beauty contract has afforded him a few other perks. “I was a brush-your-teeth-and-have-a-shower kind of guy. I can’t tell if it’s because of my association with Dior or because I’m older, but I’ve started moisturizing,” he says, calling out the brand’s Dermo System Repairing Moisturizing Emulsion as his current skin salve of choice. With a tinge of sarcasm, he adds, “It’s been a quite profound change in my life.” As for the fragrance he fronts, Pattinson likes it best in shower-gel form. Other musts include Nudie jeans and “old Hanes T-shirts,” he says. “There are stores that sell these sweat-stained T-shirts for like $80. It’s a weird cult!”
Up next for the British-born star is director David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars—a “darkly comedic Hollywood satire ghost story,” according to Pattinson. He also has projects with Werner Herzog and Anton Corbijn in the works. “This year, I’m trying to see what my niche is.”

David Michôd talks about Robert Pattinson and ‘The Rover’ at Flickerfest   1 comment

David Michôd was at Flickerfest this morning (Jan 17th) in Sydney and talked a bit about Rob and ‘The Rover’.

therover

@Roaford was there and here’s a compilation of her tweets about what Michôd said about the movie.

They didn’t talk about The Rover much but what David did say was it’s finished. He completed it a month and a half ago, but the teaser isn’t ready yet.

He cast Rob cause he could see the hunger and determination he has towards the career he ultimately wants.

David said Rob is one of the smartest guys he’s worked with said he just a fun guy to be around.

In The Rover, Scoot and Rob’s characters are from Texas so they’ll both have Texan accents. David said Rob was worried about but said he nailed it.

David said he set out to make a more commercial movie after Animal Kingdom but it ended up being darker.

David said Rob and Guy are phenomenal in The Rover and it’s the best work they’ve ever done.

David told us a story of how he saw Rob walking up the street by himself in Corn. Rob told David that it was the most magical experience to be able to do that.

‘Maps to the Stars’, ‘Queen of the Desert’ and ‘The Rover’ on The FilmStages ‘Our 80 Most-Anticipated Films of 2014’   2 comments

4. Maps to the Stars (David Cronenberg; TBD)

David Cronenberg is working in a different register these days — more removed (quite literally, in terms of something as essential as camera distance), more clinical, more alien — so those hoping for Scanners and not Cosmopolis might need to rearrange most expectations. The wicked sense of humor, however, is as cutting as ever, and in coming off a perfectly tuned, pitch-black social satire, his take on the corrosive nature of Hollywood — which required his first shooting endeavor in the United States — should be a sight; consider the lineup — Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams, as well as a returning Robert Pattinson & Sarah Gadon — and it’s hard to imagine many films will incite more of a visceral thrill this year. – Nick N

7. Queen of the Desert (Werner Herzog; TBD)

Following years of irritating stop-start development, Werner Herzog is finally shooting his first feature since 2009’s Bad Lieutenant and My Son, My Son. Shifts on the casting front are only natural with such long progressions acting as a factor, but in the central spot of legendary cartographer Gertrude Bell has Naomi Watts remained — she now buoyed by the likes of Robert Pattinson, James Franco, and Damian Lewis — and the subject’s staggering impact on history gives the sort of thread this writer-director has proven himself deeply invested in for decades. (Fitzcarraldo being but one obvious reference point.) It might prove a perfect fit, and we can’t wait to see how Queen shapes up to his true classics. – Nick N.

14. The Rover (David Michôd; Summer TBD)

After debuting the family crime drama Animal Kingdom back in 2010, it’s been a longer-than-expected wait for David Michôd‘s follow-up, but 2014 will finally bring it with The Rover. A likely bet for Cannes following its summer release, the existential western teams Guy Pearce, Robert Pattinson, Scoot McNairy and more, following a loner who tracks down the men responsible for stealing his car. If Michôd continues to display his knack for unbridled tension, this could prove to be one of Pattinson’s best performances. – Jordan R.
