Robert Pattinson on 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse's 'macho' stuff'   2 comments

Robert Pattinson compares the showdowns between his Twilight character, the vampire Edward Cullen, and the werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner, in the upcoming third film Eclipse to “being in a club in South Beach”.

“One of the most difficult things is kind of doing all this macho stuff with someone else when it’s so not for real at all,” he said. “It could be very embarrassing if it wasn’t funny.”

“Doing that kind of stepping up to this guy with his shirt off – it’s like being in a club in South Beach or something,” Pattinson told George Pennacchio of KABC Television, OnTheRedCarpet.com’s parent company.
Lautner said the two ruined several takes because they “couldn’t keep a straight face” during their confrontations, saying: “The most challenging thing about filming this movie is having to hate Edward, because Rob is such a nice guy.”

In The Twilight Saga films is based on the books by Stephenie Meyer. The series sees Cullen and Black battle for the affections of the mortal Bella, played by Kristen Stewart, who says her character is “awkward” but that her personality helps her show that her love for Cullen is genuine and by choice.

Pattinson says unlike in the previous film, New Moon, at least two of them are in “almost every single scene” in Eclipse, which is set for release on June 30 and which is “very suspenseful” but has good comedic elements, according to Lautner.

'Eclipse' Producer Wyck Godfrey on David Slade, 'Breaking Dawn', & More   2 comments

Why was David Slade the right choice to direct Eclipse?

Honestly, I loved Hard Candy. Ever since I saw that movie I was sending him everything I had. I loved the performances he got from Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page, I loved the filmmaking and the way he kept one small house, and many times one small room, alive and tense and exciting for an entire movie. And then, I saw 30 Days of Night and liked the genre elements of that, and how he had a real vision for how he wanted that world to look. That was kind of the perfect combination: his ability to tell a story and elicit amazing performances in Hard Candy, and to create a world in 30 Days of Night, which were sort of the combined qualities we were looking for in a director. So, coming off of Chris [Weitz], who is a really classic filmmaker and creates beautiful imagery, but very romantic imagery, we wanted to go in a little bit of a different direction and create something that had a little bit more anxiety and edge to it, as Bella really struggled with her choices, between Jacob and Edward, between becoming a vampire and staying human… we thought [David’s] style would bring a lot to all of that stuff.

Along those lines, what makes Bill Condon right for Breaking Dawn?

The themes and the story of Breaking Dawn are very mature; Bella and Edward are going through very adult things, from marriage to childbirth, motherhood, parenthood, and the evolution of their relationship into something that is a partnership, which is not the way Edward has viewed this relationship with her before. Bill’s a very mature filmmaker; he’s dealt with very difficult themes and stories in his career. He’s also gotten Academy Award nominations for actors in the last three films that he’s done.  And from a performance standpoint, Kristen’s going to be diving into stuff that she hasn’t been through. It’s one thing that she can remember first love and falling in love and being torn between two guys, probably, but the idea of dealing with some of these issues and having a filmmaker that can really help them as actors was vital to Breaking Dawn. Also, the visual nature of Dreamgirls made us feel like he could create something with a real scope and grandeur to it.

There’s also his earlier work: Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, Sister, Sister…

He’s a genre guy! That’s really exciting, that in some ways he’ll be coming full circle and utilizing his early roots with the stuff he’s been doing recently. I think that’ll be fun for him.

Robert Pattinson Speaks About His New Hair and Pillow Biting   2 comments

Robert Pattinson has cut his famous hair for his latest film, “Water For Elephants” – and the star says he likes the shorter ‘do so much, he may keep it for “Breaking Dawn.”

“I’m thinking Edward might have a little bit of a haircut in ‘Breaking Dawn,'” he laughed with Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” junket in LA on Saturday. “I feel so much better. You feel much more agile.”

New hair or not, he may have the chance to show off that agility in the two-part finale to the series, “Breaking Dawn,” in which Edward and Bella (Kristen Stewart) finally marry and consummate their relationship.

“I am looking forward to the pillow-biting scene. I thought that was so funny,” Rob said of the “Breaking Dawn” novel’s Bella/Edward heat of passion moment. “I’m just like, I have all the random things to do. Really? He bites the pillow.”

While Rob and Kristen can look forward to getting physical in “Breaking Dawn,” in “Eclipse” – due June 30 – it’s Taylor Lautner who has a nude scene, but not a fun one.

“He was outside and it was freezing and it was raining as well,” Rob said, explaining that he teased his on-screen romantic rival. “And he sat there like, trembling on the floor. I had my one line and I just kind of keep saying, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot what it was again, what was it?'”

Although Robert’s serious on screen, the British star’s quite the funnyman off camera – but, he said, it’d be “too nerve-wracking” to try his comedy as a potential “Saturday Night Live” host.

“I think that’s such a risk,” he said. “I went on [‘The Daily Show’] and I was thinking like, ‘Oh, I’ll try to be like, funny and stuff.’ I just realized it’s impossible to be a comedian. You gotta be a genius to able to think of that stuff.”
