Betty White has hosted Saturday Night Live. She starred in one of this year’s most popular Super Bowl commercials. She even got herself an MTV Movie Award nomination for her work feeling up Sandra Bullock in The Proposal. And now she’s back on weekly television with TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland.
So what’s left for the Golden Girl to do? How about Twilight? Yup, we think director Bill Condon should cast the 88-year-old legend in Breaking Dawn.
Guess who likes our idea: Robert Pattinson!
Read on to find out what he and many of his vampire movie costars have to say about Betty in Breaking. And no, we haven’t started a Facebook campaign…at least not yet.
R.Pattz didn’t miss a beat when we asked him at the Eclipse premiere if he thinks White should be in BD. “Definitely,” he said. “She can be the baby.”
The baby he’s referring to, of course, is Edward and Bella’s daughter, Renesmee.
He’s not the only one who thought of that. “Oh, my gosh,” Kellan Lutz said. “I love Betty. I would love for them to do what they did in Benjamin Button with her and she can be Renesmee. I would change some scenes up so we could have Jacob and Emmet going for her. I want to work with her. That would be so much fun.”
Elizabeth Reaser agrees. “Is there a part for her?” she asked. “I’d love for her to be in Breaking Dawn. We could all learn a lot from her.”
Twilight newbie Julia Jones, who plays Leah Clearwater in Eclipse, suggested White play Bella’s “great-great-grandmother in a flashback scene.”
Stephenie Meyer immediately had visions of White as bloodsucker. “We have so many vampires in Breaking Dawn, surely she can fit in somewhere,” Meyer said. “Wouldn’t it be amazing if she was like just sitting there with a big group of the Volturi? That would be amazing.”
Peter Facinelli had much bigger plans. “I think Betty White should be in…everything!” he said. “I’d put her in Breaking Dawn and then I’d like to see Betty White do an action movie in 3-D. She should be in the next Avatar.”

Rob said recently he was very challenged by Slade in playing the role of Edward this time around, and that it felt like a new character. What was the dynamic between Rob and David like?
“You know, David has talked about how Edward has to go from having just gotten Bella back to literally ripping someone’s throat out at the end [of Eclipse]. It’s a hard journey to get to for a character. So I know David worked with Rob in terms of bringing out that dark aspect of him, and we worked together on the script to make sure that was in there.”
Change can be unnerving for an actor, so was Pattinson onboard to bring this new character out? Or did he prefer the Edward in Twilight and New Moon?
“Oh sure. Rob is a courageous actor. He wants something to chew on, as it were! He wanted something meaty to really be able to act.”

Taken from the LA Times:
Like the last two movies based on Stephenie Meyer’s fan favorite vampire books, “The Twilight Sage: Eclipse,” which debuted Wednesday, is set to draw hordes of young women this weekend and should generate about $180 million in the U.S. and Canada by the national holiday Monday.
Last November’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed $179 million in the U.S. and Canada by its sixth day and “Eclipse” will likely do at least that much by Monday and possibly as much as $200 million, said people who have seen prerelease surveys. The new film has an advantage over its predecessor given the holiday weekend, the fact that many students are off from school and can go to weekday matinees, and that it is the first “Twilight” movie to play on premium priced Imax screens.
As a result, total receipts for the new film will almost certainly be very front-loaded, with most of its revenue coming in the first week.
“It’s a compressed period during which we expect to do a whole bunch of business,” said Summit domestic distribution president Richard Fay.
It remains to be seen, however, whether “Eclipse” will significantly outperform the $297-million total gross of “New Moon,” or if it will simply be the same “Twilight” fans turning out once again.

UPDATE THURSDAY 1:00 PM:
Number revised upward to $68.5M
UPDATE THURSDAY 2:00 AM:
Early figures estimate that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will break the record for a Wednesday opening, taking in $65M. This tops the $62M brought in by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Included in the total is the $30M reported previously from midnight and 3:00 AM screenings. In comparison, The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in $72.7M from 4,024 theaters on its opening day, setting a new all-time single day box office record. Of course, that was a Friday, not a Wednesday.

These numbers are not official and are only estimates based on early reports. However, these preliminary figures are usually fairly close to the final data. Summit Entertainment will officially announce domestic and worldwide numbers later.

An article on the BBC website today confirms that Eclipse has broken the records set by the previous films for the takings from the midnight showings of the film in the US and Canada.
The latest film in the Twilight series has broken the record set by its predecessor for takings from midnight screenings in the US and Canada.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse made more than $30 million (£20.1m) from midnight screenings on Wednesday, according to its distributor Summit Entertainment.
That exceeded the $26.3m (£17.6m) New Moon made when it opened last November.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart star in Eclipse, the third instalment in the vampire romance series.
The film has its UK premiere later, with advance screenings to follow this weekend ahead of its official UK release on 9 July.
Neither Stewart and Pattinson will be at the London premiere, although it will be attended by director David Slade and other cast members.
Twilight fans – dubbed “Twi-hards” by some – lined up hours ahead of the first midnight showings.
Experts expect Eclipse to have a record-breaking US debut over the traditionally lucrative Fourth of July weekend.
