We've Narrowed it Down to 5 Books. Which of These 5 Books Should We Send to Rob?   52 comments

Yesterday we did a poll asking you which book you’d suggest to Rob and why (see poll here). We said we’d send the book with the most votes to Rob on behalf of all of us. You guys made a lot of great suggestions but the votes varied so much that we weren’t able to narrow it down enough to pick one book. So we narrowed it down to five and we’re asking you to vote again. Which of these five books should we send to Rob?

  • Tell No One — Harlan Coben
  • The Shadow of the Wind – Carlos Luiz Zafon
  • Perfume: The Story of a Murderer – Süskind
  • The Master and Margarita – Mikhail Bulgakov
  • The Road – Cormac McCarthy

  1. The Shadow Of The Wind by Zafón !!! *keepfingerscrossed* 🙂

  2. The Road- Cormac McCarthy…..sounds more to his liking. The last one he read was…I Am A Mercenary. Got to read it myself.

  3. A Sombra do Vento – Zafon, Luiz Carlos

  4. I’m going with my original choice as well. The Shadow of the Wind.

  5. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer — Süskind
The Master and Margarita — Mikhail Bulgakov

  6. hmmmm….
I vote for THE ROAD,i liked it,
but also THE SHADOW OF THE WIND sounds interesting!
so.. which one has most votes, than add mine! 😛

  7. The Shadow of the Wind — Carlos Luiz Zafon

  8. The Shadow of the Wind 🙂

  9. The shadow of the wind by Carlos Luiz Zafon

  10. Shadow of the Wind… But couldn’t you send the top 2 … In which case, The Story of a Murderer… Oh, and send kisses (etc) from us x

  11. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer — Süskind 😀

  12. The Master and Margarita — Mikhail Bulgakov

  13. Oh, I haven’t read none of them. But I trust me fellows judge, so whatever you guys send him, I’m sure it’s a good suggestion. And I’ll keep the list for myself as well! 😉

  14. I don’t like The road : too hard without reason (I’ve read many very good SF books on the same plot without all this horrible descriptions)
I haven’t read Tell no one but the plot doesn’t seem that interesting (for Rob’s taste)
The Shadow of the wind is essentially of books, I don’t think Rob will like it enormously
Remain two books ; I liked the two ; I think Perfume speaks a little of Rob and so I prefer it.

  15. The Shadow of the Wind — Carlos Luiz Zafon I’m not a big reader, but I read it and I love it 🙂

  16. Def not “Perfume” or “Master and Margarita” as I recon everyone has read them. They are like modern popular books.

I think “Shadow of the Wind” or “Tell no one”.

    • Ironically enough with all the books I’ve read I’ve never read those 2 o.O

      • Neither have I so I can’t vote!! ::)

        • Ha ha! I used to work in a bookstore. These two books were quite common. I’m sure he would of read them. My bookstore was in London too. I wonder if ever served him. Very good books though. The Everyman edition of “Master and Margarita” is really nice its a lovely red hardback (once you take the paper cover off) http://amzn.to/b1OVbe if you are going to treat yourselves. Perfume the film is a let down, read the book first. xx

  17. The Road — Cormac McCarthy

  18. Perfume….

  19. The Shadow of the Wind — Carlos Luiz Zafon!! Is really good! *.*

  20. Tell No One — Harlan Coben
I absolutely love this book =]

  22. Per fume: The Story of a Mur derer — Süskind I haven’t read any of the others yet but now I have more books to add to my reading list haha

  23. I found the book The Shadow of the Wind in my house (:
I’ve never read it before and I see that people here are recommending, so I’ll start read it =]

  24. I’ve never read any of them..

Ok after looking them up, I still cant decide. I don’t want to pick a rubbish one so i’ll leave it to you guys.
Just slip my number in whichever one you send 😉

  25. The Master and Margarita — Mikhail Bulgakov !!! It is very very interesting book! =) I advise to read this one.

  26. The Master and Margarita — Mikhail Bulgakov, because I like the book and the writer. I recommend.

  27. The Road

  28. I am going to say: Shadow of the wind, never read it. but i am planning on it. But both my parents read it and they really liked it. And my dad is kinda picky when it comes to reading books.

  29. i’ve read Perfume.. it’s a really great book.. it has a little bit of everything.. i think that should be the one.. =)

  30. Shadow of the wind ! 😉

  31. I can’t pick Perfume: Story of a Murderer just because that movie was god awful and I’ve never read the book, but if it’s anything like the movie, I would not recommend it. I would probably choose either The Road or Shadow of the Wind. 🙂

  32. *hands on hips*

I don’t see Little Women in this list. I’m rather disappointed in the selection.

Oooh! I I WANT TO READ THE ROAD!!!! That one since Little Women isn’t an option I guess *huff*

    LOL

  33. How about any of James Herriot’s books?

    http://www.jamesherriot.org/his-works/

  34. And “Creatures of the Kingdom” by James A. Michener

^That’s just one of my favorite James Michener books. 😉

  35. “The Martian Chronicles” by Ray Bradbury

  36. I could go on and on . . . and on! 😉

  37. The Road is the only one I have read in this list. I gave it five stars out of five after I read it.

  38. Shadow of the Wind!!! I loved that book!!

  39. I think he would like “The Road” but Im sure he would like anything you send him! You guys are so sweet that’s why I love this site!

  40. Shadow of the Wind

  41. “La sombra del viento” — Carlos Luiz Zafon

  42. The Shadow of the Wind = 14
    The Road = 8
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer = 6
The Master and Margarita = 3
    Tell No One = 1

  43. I´d like to vote one of the books out:
    Perfume – Süskind
I´m quite sure he already read it anyway as you literally bump into it everywhere, at least in Germany. It was such a huge success when it came out, normally you read it in school, you deal with it at university, there has been a movie adaption….so probably it would be better to sort that one out??!!

  44. Yes because Süskind is german : I’m not sure it’s the same in the other countries. In France we don’t read it at school and only good readers know it.
