Discussion: What Are Your Thoughts On The Bel Ami Issue? 55 comments
As most of you know Bel Ami is a novel written by Maupassant which revolves around the world of Georges Duroy, a character who uses sex and women to gain power, influence and money. However as we’ve heard earlier the studio is worried about marketing the movie as Rob plays a cad in the movie.
We’ve been seeing your messages on the site and on Facebook and we hear you loud and clear. We thought we’d give you guys a place to discuss the subject. What are your thoughts on the matter?
Robert Pattinson’s Bel Ami producers worried about marketing movie 18 comments

From Total Film
Robert Pattinson admits that Bel Ami is still in editing because studio honchos are worried about alienating audiences used to his goody-two-shoes persona in the Twilight franchise.
RPattz plays the titular Bel Ami in an adaptation of Maupassant’s classic novel about a 19th century womanising, social-climbing journalist who sleeps his way round Paris.
Filming in the UK and Budapest opposite leading ladies Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristen Scott Thomas wrapped in spring 2010 and was originally slated for a Christmas release. It currently has no confirmed opening date.
“We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a shit who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it – especially with me in it,” Pattinson tells TF exclusively.
“Everyone’s worried that everyone’s going to be thinking, ‘Oh I want him to be nice, he’s got to be nice to all the ladies’.”
Bel Ami, though, is an unrepentant cad. “I know,” laughs the Water For Elephants star, “But that was fun!”

“As in the old days”
Robert Pattinson (24, Twilight star) has a prominent admirer. “He is absolutely bold , like a movie star from the old days”, actress Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) raves about him in an MTV interview. “With his unbelievable presence he is sure to have a successful career as a serious actor.”
Pattinson and Thurman recently shot the film Bel Ami. In the movie she plays a Parisian temptress and he portrays a young charmer, who wants to make his career as a journalist in the Parisian fashion world of the 19th century.

Write up from the scans of the interview in EW Magazine:
“Pattinson says that signing on to Elephants, directed by I am Legend’s Francis Lawrence, was a no brainer, and that he’s considering his post-Twilight career very carefully- though ultimately he knows whatever will be, will be. “It’s impossible to predict anything,” he sighs before grinning. “When it all goes down the toilet, you can just weep.” After the labour intensive shoot for the final two Twilight films, Breaking Dawn parts 1 & 2 (in theatres Nov 2011 & Nov 2011), wraps in April, he’ll start shooting David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, with Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti. “He’s an incredibly hard working person with an incredible work ethic,” says Witherspoon. “He doesn’t ever complain. Not once. Which is sort of lower than the national average for actors. They’re always complaining. Especially the men!”
Twilight lovers will be happy to know that Pattinson is as good looking and thick-maned in person as he appears on screen. But they shouldn’t confuse him with any of the broody characters he’s played. He’s talkative and laughs easily- about the intense fame that’s followed him since Twilight became a phenomenon (“How is this still a story? It’s boring.”), about the darkness of the Breaking Dawn movies (“It’s going to be sooo weird.”), and most of all, at himself. “I’d love to play a big fat person,” he says, contemplating a different look in a post-Edward Cullen era. No doubt it would just mean more of him to love.
EW: You and Tai, the elephant, have a special bond in Water for Elephants. Do you think she’ll remember you at our photo shoot tomorrow?
Robert Pattinson: I don’t know. I’m terrified that she won’t. I’ll be so so happy if she does.

Video: Uma Thurman Says Robert Pattinson Will Be A Really Serious Actor 1 comment

From MTV:
Throughout the course of his first few years in the business, Robert Pattinson has had a great run with quality leading ladies. During MTV News’ recent live interview with the star, he joked that he has a special place in his heart for working with “hot girls.”
When MTV News caught up with one of the “hot” women in question, Uma Thurman, she laughed off the compliment and turned the praise back toward her co-star and his impressive work in their upcoming period drama, “Bel Ami.”
“Robert Pattinson is, I think, going to be a really serious actor,” Thurman said while promoting her new movie “Ceremony.” “I think he’s incredibly concrete in his presence on the set and obviously is very handsome. [He] is a very nice person and he’s sensitive. He’s present. … He’s a really good actor.”
Thurman went on to say that while a lot of attention is focused on his attractiveness, he was very professional during filming and held his own with all the women who appear in “Bel Ami.”
“Yes, he’s extremely dashing, like an old-world movie star,” Thurman admitted. “[But] he’s got a lot of weight to him. I don’t think he was knocked down by all the women they threw at him [during the filming of ‘Bel Ami’], which I think is probably lucky for him.”
Speaking to Pattinson’s comments that we might see a lot of his bum in “Bel Ami,” Thurman revealed she was not privy to any RPattz nakedness.
“I didn’t see his bum once!” she said, laughing. “So I can’t tell you about it. I don’t know what happened to him with other characters, I have no idea, to tell you the truth,” she said, adding that just because she didn’t see it, doesn’t mean it won’t be in the film. “I haven’t seen the film cut together, so there may or may not be Robert’s bum.”
