Blackrod author Kate Long on how Bad Mother made her a better mum

What inspired your first book?
I decided to write The Bad Mother’s Handbook because I felt no one was really writing about the struggle of ordinary women – lower middle/working class mothers who might have to hold down a job and run a household single-handed.
There were plenty of books on the market about London mums who had fabulous careers and nannies, but I wanted to create a world where the clothes labels were C&;A or Topshop rather than Issey Miyake and Ghost. I didn’t actually set out to make it northern, though. The characters themselves announced it, speaking with Bolton accents. So my home ground of Blackrod became the novel’s ‘Bank Top’.
The story itself follows the lives of three members of the same family, a grandmother who is in her late 70s, a 30-something mother and a teenage daughter, and the story reveals what happens to them during the course of a year.

The Bad Mother's Handbook Being Released on August 24th, Watch a 10 Minute Clip Here   5 comments

Being pasty, mopey and filled with indescribable longing isn’t just for sparkly vampires anymore.

Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson shows off his acting chops in The Bad Mother’s Handbook, a 2007 BBC family drama in which the future Edward Cullen plays a super uncomfortable, scarf-wearing nerd—and is totally adorable at it, sigh—who begins a sweet romance with a pregnant classmate.

Hitting DVD on Aug. 24, on the heels of Eclipse, the film also stars Dr. Who‘s Catherine Tate, which adds immeasurably to its potent combination of nerd-chic and romantic angst.

You can check out some of Rob’s parts in the video below and you can pre-order The Bad Mother’s Handbook on Amazon here.

From Harry Potter to Eclipse, Which is Your Favorite Role Rob Played?   60 comments

From Harry Potter to Eclipse which is your favorite Robert Pattinson role? I’m leaving out the smaller movies such as Rings of the Nibelungs and The Summer House as not many people have seen them. I’ll probably surprise no one by saying that my favorite Rob role is Tyler Hawkins. Let us know which role is your favorite in the comments.

Here’s a little refresher for you guys 😉
