The Hollywood Reporter: “Water for Elephants Over Performing”   1 comment

From THR:

Good Friday is turning out to be excellent for the movie business, with Rio continuing to soar and new entry Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family off to a solid start.

The surprise is Water for Elephants — starring Reese WitherspoonRobert Pattinson andChristoph Waltz — which is overperforming in early business at the domestic box office.

(…)

Heading into the weekend, Fox 2000’s Water for Elephants was projected to post an opening weekend gross of between $13 million to $15 million.

Water, based on the bestselling book by Sara Gruen, has been gaining momentum in recent days, particularly among younger females, and has every chance now of doing more business. The film’s strongest demo, according to tracking, is older women.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse launched yesterday in 21 international markets, earning an estimated $16.2 million. While it came just short of topping The Twilight Saga: New Moon’s opening day record domestically (although Eclipse did open on a Wednesday and NM was a Friday- makes a big difference- Ed), Eclipse had no problem out-grossing its predecessor’s launch in nearly all overseas territories.

Russia led the way with an estimated $3.9 million, which more than doubled New Moon’s $1.9 million debut. In Italy, Eclipse tallied an estimated $3.1 million, up from New Moon’s $2.9 million opening last November. This represents the third-best opening day ever in Italy.

In the Philippines, Eclipse grossed $1.2 million, which was way ahead of New Moon’s $741,000. If the estimate holds, Eclipse will top Spider-Man 3 for best opening day ever there. Eclipse also registered the highest opening day ever in Belgium, where it grossed an estimated $1.1 million.

Eclipse also had impressive starts in Sweden ($1.04 million), Norway ($847,000), Denmark ($739,000), Turkey ($658,000), Poland ($558,000), Greece ($548,000), South Africa ($372,000), Finland ($333,000) and Hungary ($177,000).

Eclipse opened today in Spain, Australia and Mexico as well as many smaller territories, and it hits major markets France, Germany, South Korea and Japan in the coming weeks.

Eclipse headed for $180 by Monday   1 comment

TwilightEclipse

Taken from the LA Times:

Like the last two movies based on Stephenie Meyer’s fan favorite vampire books, “The Twilight Sage: Eclipse,” which debuted Wednesday, is set to draw hordes of young women this weekend and should generate about $180 million in the U.S. and Canada by the national holiday Monday.

Last November’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed $179 million in the U.S. and Canada by its sixth day and “Eclipse” will likely do at least that much by Monday and possibly as much as $200 million, said people who have seen prerelease surveys. The new film has an advantage over its predecessor given the holiday weekend, the fact that many students are off from school and can go to weekday matinees, and that it is the first “Twilight” movie to play on premium priced Imax screens.

As a result, total receipts for the new film will almost certainly be very front-loaded, with most of its revenue coming in the first week.

“It’s a compressed period during which we expect to do a whole bunch of business,” said Summit domestic distribution president Richard Fay.

It remains to be seen, however, whether “Eclipse” will significantly outperform the $297-million total gross of “New Moon,” or if it will simply be the same “Twilight” fans turning out once again.

Eclipse breaks Wednesday opening with $68.5M record   1 comment

UPDATE THURSDAY 1:00 PM:

Number revised upward to $68.5M

UPDATE THURSDAY 2:00 AM:

Early figures estimate that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will break the record for a Wednesday opening, taking in $65M. This tops the $62M brought in by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Included in the total is the $30M reported previously from midnight and 3:00 AM screenings. In comparison, The Twilight Saga: New Moon took in $72.7M from 4,024 theaters on its opening day, setting a new all-time single day box office record. Of course, that was a Friday, not a Wednesday.

These numbers are not official and are only estimates based on early reports. However, these preliminary figures are usually fairly close to the final data. Summit Entertainment will officially announce domestic and worldwide numbers later.

Remember Me Brings in 51.4 Million Dollars at The Box Office   9 comments

Remember Me has brought in 51.4 million dollars so far at the box office according to Box Office Mojo. Remember Me has a domestic total of  19,019,000$ and a foreign total of 32, 379,153$ for a grand total of 51,398,153$. Looking at the information below you’ll see that the foreign number differs slightly as the totals have not all been added up. I added up the numbers from this page here to get the foreign number total. We are so happy that Remember has brought in this much so far, but we’re hoping that the DVD and Blu-Ray sales will bring the total to a much higher number.

If you’re still lucky enough to have Remember Me still playing in a theatre near you don’t hesitate to go see it again. As for me, I’ll have to patiently wait for my DVD to watch it again. It’s such a great heartfelt movie.

This movie is truly important as it’s Rob’s first movie outside of the Twilight Saga, since the Saga was released. It proves to the rest of the world what us fans knew all along, that Rob is a great actor and can play a vast range of emotions. As someone who has had to live with the death of a loved one by suicide I can assure you that Rob truly portrayed what it’s like to lose someone in such a fashion.

If you want to pre-order Remember on DVD click here and for Blu-Ray click here.

Remember Me will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on June 22nd and includes an audio commentary by  Rob.

Remember Me Makes $10.5 Million at the Foreign Box Office   3 comments

From Alt Film Guide

Robert Pattinson’s romantic drama Remember Me has taken in approximately $10.5 million at the international box office up to March 28, 2010, according to figures found at Box Office Mojo. (Australia and Bulgaria, March 21.)

After being greeted by mixed-to-negative reviews, Remember Me has earned a total of $17.7 million in the United States/Canada up to April 1. Its worldwide cume currently stands at about $28.2 million — actually more than that; as stated above, international figures are one week behind.

To date, Remember Me’s top international markets have been Russia* with $3.159 million, Brazil with $1.476 million, Italy with $1.043 million, Australia with $916K (March 21), and Germany with $843K. Apparently, Robert Pattinson has a large following in those countries.

Next in line are Greece (423K), Sweden ($405K), Poland ($333K), Mexico ($270K), Portugal ($229K), and New Zealand/Fiji ($216K).

Remember Me, which was executive produced by Pattinson, officially cost $16 million. Summit Entertainment should get about half of the film’s worldwide gross (if $28.3 million, that would mean approximately $14 million or so for the studio; the box-office split, however, can vary depending on the film and the territories where it has played).

As I’ve said in previous posts, even after including advertising and distribution costs, Remember Me will most likely end up in the black after worldwide box-office rentals and ancillary revenues are added up.

In fact, this latest Robert Pattinson vehicle is already close to covering its production costs at the global box-office even though it’s just now opening in major markets such as the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Spain.

Remember Me has yet to open in Japan, China, France, South Korea, Denmark, and Argentina and many other large and mid-size territories.

Directed by Allen Coulter from a screenplay by Will Fetters, Remember Mestars Robert Pattinson as a young rebel at odds with his father (Pierce Brosnan). Emilie de Ravin plays Pattinson’s romantic interest. Also in the cast: Chris Cooper, Lena Olin, and Tate Ellington.

* Actually, the Commonwealth of Independent States, which includes Russia and most of the old Soviet Union republics.

Remember Me Box Office Update   Leave a comment

At #12, Robert Pattinson’s Remember Me earned $1.9 million down an acceptable 41.6% from last weekend. Curiously, when compared to other movies Remember Me actually does better on weekdays than on weekends.

The romantic drama was #10 on Friday, but according to current estimates it had only a minor surge on Saturday and did poor business on Sunday. That has been the film’s pattern since it opened two weeks ago. A relatively weak weekend, but then on weekdays it goes up a spot or two on the chart.

To date, Remember Me has grossed $17.1 million, or about $1 million more than its production cost. It’ll probably earn another $3-$5 million in the next couple of weeks, ending its run in the low $20m range. That’s not bad at all for a movie that at first looked like it was going to disappear within the week.
