Holliday Grainger talks about Robert Pattinson with Grazia Daily
Holliday also told us about her friend Robert Pattinson. The pair have worked together on a number of projects over the years including The Bad Mother’s Handbook in 2007 and Bel Ami in 2012 in which they played lovers. ‘He’s lovely,’ she says. ‘I’ve known him since his pre-Twilight days when he was a normal person and it was still like, “ooh you’re playing Cederic Diggory (in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire)”. He’s managed to keep very level headed and normal. I don’t understand how. I can’t fathom the idea of living a life like he lives. On the set of Bel Ami in Budpest there would be hundreds of screaming girls there at 5am and they would still be cordoned off when we finished. He had to move hotels because there were so many people outside his. One day he was signing autographs on the way home from work at 6am after a night shoot. Bless him, that’s an extra level of hard.’
Fassbender, Law, Irvine. It almost seems unfair that Holliday has Robert Pattinson on her co-star list, too. She starred with him in 2007’s TV drama, The Bad Mother’s Handbook when she was 18, and in last year’s Bel Ami. ‘He’s really easy going,’ she says of the Twilight heartthrob. ‘And open – amazingly so considering he’s so closely scrutinised. He’s still managed to maintain a sense of self. [On Bel Ami] you couldn’t get to set half the time because there were so many screaming girls. Even at 5am. It was mad. He had to change hotels because there were so many fans outside one he couldn’t get in. I’ve watched him live with that and it would send me insane. There’s no way could I cope with that.’
You worked with R-Patz five years ago. Does that mean you weren’t all googly-eyed over Twilight’s ‘Edward’?
If I hadn’t have known him I might have been slightly intimidated. I hadn’t even seen Twilight but I watched the first film after Bel Ami and I was like: ‘Now I get what all the hype is about.’
Is he the same bloke, except now he’s called R-Patz?
Yeah, I think he’s handled it brilliantly and managed to stay down to earth. When we went to the Bel Ami premiere, he went early so he could go and sign all the fans’ pictures. As much as I’d love to be a successful actor, the thought of being recognised in the street is petrifying.
Holliday Grainger looked stunning in a black velvet and silk dress this morning, as she joined Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe to announce the nominations for this year’s Baftas.
If Holliday and Daniel represent the future of the British film industry, it’s safe to say the future looks bright.
Another star leading the way for British talent is Twilight star Robert Pattinson – someone Holliday knows pretty well.
The talented twosome star in forthcoming flick Bel Ami, with Holliday playing Robert‘s love interest – it’s a tough job eh?
The Jane Eyre actress had no nerves when it came to puckering up with Rob, as she knew him pre-Twilight days, when they both appeared in 2007 film The Bad Mother’s Handbook.
Holliday said: “I’ve worked with him pre-Twilight so I wasn’t massively scared having to go in there and snog him.”
When asked if Rob had changed since becoming a global heartthrob, she laughed: “No, not at all. He’s a lovely guy. Always has been.”
