Our encounter with Rob was very exciting. When he arrived to the Four Seasons hotel room, the handsome Brit was dressed casually wearing his signature jeans, white tee and baseball cap. He seemed relaxed, but we had to get to our interview immediately because we didn’t have much time.
Has Edward evolved in this final movie?
He’s definitely more relaxed than in Breaking Dawn Part 2, but as soon as Bella becomes a vampire, he loses balance. Everyting is new again. He never really understod her before, and now she’s his equal, and even then he still doesn’t get her. She’s stronger than him and she’s completely umpredictable. She’s the hyper version of who she was before. He’s trying to decipher her, and in a way it makes him seem younger. He’s very excited.
He’s been Edward Cullen ever since he was Harry Potter’s Cedric Diggory, but for Robert Pattinson, the actor who plays the glittery vampire hero of the Twilight movie franchise, it’s been a steep learning curve.
“When you first sign on to something when you were nobody, you feel like everything’s totally out of control,” he said in Sydney today. “Once you’ve experienced it once, you realise how to have a little bit more control over it.”
One of the things the actor would like to control is the moniker that has become attached to him through the Twilight publicity whirlwind: Rpatz. “I would like to break the hands and mouth of the person who came up with it,” he says with a chuckle.
It’s only been five years since the first Twilight film hit our cinemas and the book phenomenon became a pop-culture behemoth, introducing “RPatz” and “KStew” to our worlds and adding phrases such as “Team Edward”, “Team Jacob” and “Twi-hards” to the lexicon.
Robert Pattinson, the teen vampire, had the great idea of taking a lot of different role while he was shooting the Twilight movies and today it rewards him. Journ: Are you vampirised by the cinema today? Rob: I hope so. In a certain way. It’s a very complicated job and the ambiance is quite criticized. I like it and if I still have new offer, it’s great. It’s quite unexpected. It’s true. I didn’t expect any of it but it happens currently. The winning strategy consists in not making people forget about his character but to use him a step stone. Today he is at the top of his carreer and Robert Pattinson can do whatever he wants, like other heroes did before him.
The interview is from tha Greek newspaper “To Vima” and was given to film critic Giannis Zoumboulakis.
Blame it on the typecast of pale, out of this world vampire that accompanies him. I don’t know what I expected from Robert Pattinson, but what I got up close was a totally grounded behavior, a warm smile (maybe little shy too), an inherent gentleness. Pattinson was at Cannes Film Festival for David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis”, a movie where he gave his most demanding performance, which he admitted didn’t know how to handle at first.
He asks for mineral water. He is immediately asked about his prostate. It’s not a random question – prostate is connected to Pattinson’s part in “Cosmopolis”. “I wish I knew” the actor says (after a while) when he realizes the reason he is asked this “anatomically indiscreet” question. “I have to have it examined. People say is very important – everybody talks about it. I never exactly understood what prostate is anyway” he comments.

Transcript
1)Are you afraid that everything else you do will be compared to Edward Cullen?
Robert Pattinson: I’m not sure. I’ve always been of the opinion that if something explodes really quickly, it takes the same amount of time for people to think of something else. I mean, I don’t know. I hope not. Maybe it’ll be a good thing…I have no idea.
2)What’s the one part of your costume that always transforms you into character?
Robert Pattinson: Probably the contact lenses because it makes me miserable as soon as I put them in. That’s what creates sort of the pouting and brooding character. You’re just like, ‘Ugh.’
3) What drives you to succeed?
Robert Pattinson: I guess probably fear of failure and an inadequacy complex, and I just drive rental cars. I drive different things. I don’t have a car.
4) There are so many fan sites not just for you, but for Edward. Do you check any of those fansites out?
Robert Pattinson: It’s kind of incredible the information they get so quickly. Sometimes I’ll check them to see what my schedule is on stuff, like on weekends when I can’t get through to my agency. They know way better, or even to see my emails sometimes!
5) Talk about the past year or so of your life. The sudden celebrity. The paparazzi. How are you dealing with things, and do you find yourself more comfortable with it all now?
Robert Pattinson: I guess it’s inevitable that you become more comfortable. You still fight against some things. There’s nothing really scary about the franchise itself. I like all the people I work with. I generally have very few disagreements about the script or anything while we’re doing it, especially on New Moon. It just seemed so relaxed and easy.
6) What about in a fight between you and Taylor Lautner?
Robert Pattinson: I don’t know. I did hear, the other day, that Taylor had agreed to an interview where the interviewer was going to fight him. And, after looking at Taylor’s martial arts videos from when he was like nine, I wouldn’t really want to do anything. Maybe if I had some kind of weapon.
7)Love plays such a major part of these films, and so many fans want what happens on the screen to happen in your real life. How do you separate falling in love in real life with the women that you’re cast opposite?
You’ve always got to remember that you’re being paid. There’s a lot of connotations that come with that. That’s one of the major separations.
