Robert Pattinson dissection
At 26, (with a full set of teeth!) this “Twilight” vampire comes back as a trader in “Cosmopolis” and as a right Casanova in “Bel ami”. (And of course, he melts our hearts!).
Brain: Sharp, he’s aware that his trade prefers younger actors and is already considering his other options for the future. “I want to write” says this Francophile film buff, he’s an avid reader. He feels a connection with Michel Houellebecq’s characters And Jean-Luc Godard’s films.
Eyes: laser blue eyes! He has this serial seducer stare that allows him to impersonate the trader in Cosmopolis as well as the ambitious cad in Bel Ami, since his debut in Harry Potter in 2005 the British press has nicknamed him the new Jude Law.
Heart: spoken for by Kristen, his Twilight co star. They have been cryptic for a while about the nature of their relationship, a clever way of protecting themselves while feeding the suspense.
Smile: Pale. “My dad pushed me to take acting lessons to give me confidence. I hated the stage but once I saw the many pretty girls there, I assiduously attended.”
Ears: Musical! Piano from the early age of 3 and the guitar from only 5! More recently an interest in the cello has flourished in him. “I am a one-man band” he says smiling “Music has always been my plan B”. He also composes: two of his songs have been used in “Twilight”.

Facial features: Chiselled. Almost feminine! “As a child, my sisters used to dress me up as a woman and nickname me ‘Claudia’”. This (stunning) face enabled him to be regarded as an excellent choice to incarnate Salvadore Dali in “little ashes” in 2009.
Skin: Translucent ! Just like his Twilight vampire, he must flee daylight to escape the teenage crowds that track him down. “I live indoors, otherwise chaos ensues, I ‘d never imagined that I would become an idol for tweens. Sometimes I ask myself how far my patience will stretch”.
Name: Pattinson. Revealed by “Twilight”, he was ranked in 2008 by Forbes magazine to be amongst the 50 most influential celebs on the planet. Forename: Robert. We prefer to call him ‘Rob’. He has two elder sisters: Lizzy (a singer in the group Aurora) and Victoria (who currently works in advertising). Date of birth: 13th May 1986, in London (where he still resides to this day). Father: A car salesman. Richard specialized in American vintage cars. “My father has always been an artist that could never summon up the courage to put himself out there”. Mother: Casting director. Thanks to ‘Mummy’ (Clare) Pattinson manages to obtain him a contract at the young age of 12. Diplomas: none. “From 13 to 16 I was very lazy; I only started doing my homework at 17, and that was far too late”. First job: Model. “When I started, the ‘androgynous’ look was very popular, and it seemed to work! As soon as puberty caught up with me though, my career fell apart.

Robert Pattinson on the cover of Day& Night – NEW Interview and Pictures from Cosmopolis Promo Shoot   2 comments

Some quotes – Read the full interview on the scans above

Sucking on a pink lollipop, the Twilight star signs a handful of autographs then saunters over. He’s quiet, unassuming…”

About the Cosmo premiere: “I was so nervous watching it…I couldn’t concentrate. Afterwards, I was a the party freaking out!”

“I’d been to On The Road, so I was like ‘My ovation wasn’t as long!”

“Sometimes you need to trick people. That’s all it is. It’s just a trick”

“After Little Ashes, I was done… I got Twilight afterwards, completely by fluke. I had no money, and I had to pay a tax bill.”

On Cosmopolis- “It really changed my confidence afterwards. I have signed up to a bunch of other stuff now which is quite ambitious & weird”

‘While Cosmopolis is very much an “all or nothing” movie, it probably helps that he’s with (Kristen) Stewart now. Even before Twilight, with films like Into The Wild, the 22 year old actress was something of a risk-taker.

“It’s nice to have someone who is really ambitious and has good taste”, Pattinson nods. “I’ve always liked my friends and people around me to be quite good pace-makers.”

“You don’t want to have a bunch of arse-kissers around. You want it to be a competition.”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart talk about each other in Vanity Fair   1 comment

On getting scolded for off-screen antics with Robert Pattinson:

“Me and Rob got into a lot of trouble. We were getting notes from the studio. They wanted me to smile all the time. They wanted Rob to be not so brooding. We were like, ‘No! You need to brood your a– off.’”

Robert Pattinson on Stewart’s passion for fashion:

“I never saw that coming.”

“The perception of her is that she’s ‘awkward,’” Rob admits. “But it’s funny knowing her. It’s the absolute opposite of what people think. She’s insanely confident.”

On top of battling personal reluctance, Stewart also struggles with the public’s preconceived notions about her personality. “People have decided how they are going to perceive her,” Robert Pattinson tells V.F. of Stewart. “No matter how many times she smiles, they’ll put in the one picture where she’s not smiling.”

There were a few actors still in the running for the part of Edward, and Hardwicke was smart enough to involve Stewart in the final decision-making. “Chemistry reads” are a long-standing ritual for testing whether two actors will work well together on-screen, but it sounds as if Hardwicke was experimenting with explosives the day she had Pattinson, a young British actor then best known for playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire, show up at her house to run through some scenes with Stewart, in the bedroom no less. “Honestly I was nervous,” the director remembers. “I saw they were so attracted and Kristen was under-age. I said, ‘Rob, we have a law in this country under 18. Don’t get in trouble here.‘ I felt I was in the presence of something strong and powerful.” When Pattinson left, Stewart said, “It’s him.” Hardwicke listened but wanted to make sure that their charisma and visceral connection translated onto film. “Not everybody makes it all the way through the screen to our hearts and souls in the movie theater,” the director says, “but these two did. It was electrifying.”

As you may know, her offscreen relationship with Pattinson has drawn enormous attention, but she is publicly mum on this one. That the two are a couple is not something they seem to want to hide; it’s just that they like their privacy. A friend who knows Stewart very well says, “This is something that she wants to keep for herself.”

New Robert Pattinson Interview with ‘Cine Télé Revue’ – Belgium   1 comment

The interview was done during Cannes. The interviewer precises that Rob was eating a lollipop.

In the movie, you get your prostate checked? Is yours asymmetrical too?
Rob: *laughs* I haven’t checked that yet! Everybody talks about it, it’s crazy how that line marked people.

Did you feel up to the task to take on this role?
Rob: When David Cronenberg called me I was in the middle of shooting Breaking Dawn. There were only three weeks left. As soon as I got home, I pounced on the script and read it in one sitting, in one night. It was really strong, complex and freaky but so funny!

Your character speaks all the time, weren’t you scared?
Rob: The risk of failure was huge. At first, I told David I didn’t feel ready for the challenge. There was too much pressure, but he convinced me. Even though he knew I didn’t understand anything from the script. *laughs*

What didn’t you get?
Rob: For Cronenberg, everything made sense. The fact that I didn’t understand didn’t bother him. He was more concerned about my performance. The world of finance means nothing to me. It conceals an absurd distortion of power struggles. But it’s not the end of the world, it’s a rebirth because this world needs sometimes to be cleansed and purified.

Your character tries to escape from himself. Since you became famous – and with all these paparazzi hanging on to your coat-tails – are you experiencing the same thing?
Rob: I try not to think about it, I only do my job. I stay cautious about all of this but it’s still weird. It’s like speaking in your sleep. Cosmopolis is a challenging movie that will open doors for me to new projects. I am very pleased. Saying that though, I can’t compare this with my private life even if I feel completely claustrophobic.

Are you relieved that Twilight is over now and that you can now move on to something else?
Rob: I will never disown Twilight. It was my job security. I’ll never try to find excuses. The advantage now is that directors think differently. As an actor, it’s something you’ve always dreamed about.

Lots of people think it’s because of Twilight that you’re pushed to do more diarist and intellectual movies …
Rob: I did little movies before Twilight. People only notice you when they feel like it. It depends from one type of audience from another. I ‘acted’ too in Twilight. It was a beautiful period in my life but now it’s time to turn the page.

Are you still offered heartthrob’s roles?
Rob: It’s not always easy to play heartthrob. You need to be extremely confident or be completely oblivious to what people think of you. I like to keep my integrity as an actor.

Did you see ‘On the Road’ in which your girlfriend, Kristen Stewart, has a role?
Rob: Yes and it’s sort of weird to see her like this. To have people clapping for you at Cannes, a Festival that’s a little crazy and with so many people, is funny. We might expect those kind of reactions but always end up being surprised.

Did you become up professional opponents?
Rob: No, never. For a year now we both had the chance to evolve in the job we love, especially in those amazing movie projects. Kristen is really ambitious. She knows how to find good scripts, she has the nose for that. I admire her.
We wanted people to respect and understand our choices. During the Cosmopolis screening at Cannes, I was a nervous wreck. I was looking in front of me, behind me, trying to guess people’s reactions. I was trying to listen for whispers. And in the end, I missed half the movie. *laughs* At the after party that followed, I was even more terrified at the prospect of having to face people’s comments.

Will you be in a movie together after Twilight?
Rob: Yes, absolutely. We’re trying to write a script together. It won’t be for now but we’ve thought about it for a long time. The filming of the last two movies was long and difficult. My character doesn’t change, he can’t die. We finish on a high note.
