Q: It’s been a really wide range of parts for you, lately. In “Remember Me,” you’re this tough New York businessman.
A: Yes, this powerful, Donald Trump type. I’m very hard-nosed, separated from my wife — we’ve already lost one son to drugs, and I’m estranged from my other son, who’s played by Robert Pattinson. .?.?. It’s good. He’s very good in it, too. I’m so fond of Rob — this young fellow in the vortex of fame.
Q: You’ve mentioned being impressed by how Rob Pattinson’s handling his fame. But you really had two waves of it, first with “Remington Steele” and then with the Bond films. Were the experiences very different, coming a decade or so apart?
A: “Remington,” that was just the golden opportunity to create a career and an American life. And it wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t taken the leap and mortgaged my house for 2,000 pounds and caught a cheap flight out on Freddie Laker. That was the start. And Bond, Bond always came in and out of my life with drama.

There’s no mistaking Tyler Hawkins for Edward Cullen.
Tyler — the young romantic ‘Twilight’ heartthrob Robert Pattinson portrays in the new drama ‘Remember Me’ — is still brooding, but more in a Holden Caulfield, disenfranchised upper-crest New Yorker sort of way (rather than, you know, troubled by the anxieties of blood-lust and immortality).
Pattinson and co-stars Pierce Brosnan,Emilie de Ravin and Chris Cooper, plus director Allen Coulter and screenwriter Will Fetters, hit New York recently to talk about the Manhattan-set drama. And since, well, we had a feeling the masses of R.Patz fans might be just a little bit enthused to have their existence officially acknowledged by the actor, we opened up the floor for fan-submitted questions.
The gracious Pattinson played along, answering questions about whether or not he’d ever consider playing James Bond (“I don’t know if I’d be capable of it, I think you need to be pretty fit for that”), the awkwardness of love scenes, his acting inspirations (“Joaquin Phoenix, Ryan Gosling“) and what he could never give up (“Beer”).

For Brosnan this Hitchcockian sure to be hit is just the start. I’ve seen “Remember Me” which opens on the 12th and he’s every bit as accomplished and memorable as the rich lawyer/divorced father of Robert Pattinson’s troubled son. There’s a boardroom encounter between the two that is all snap, crackle and a huge Pop! You’ll remember it well.
“Remember Me” is a cross between “Love Story” with Pattinson the rich collegiate in love with the cop’s daughter played by Emilie de Ravin and “East of Eden,” where Pattinson’s son is unabashed in his emotional turmoil and desperate to forge a link with his father. Boldly melodramatic, “Remember Me,” directed by Allen Coulter from a debut screenplay by U. of Delaware grad Will Fetters, is impeccably played by a cast that includes Oscar winner Chris Cooper as de Ravin’s widower dad, Lena Olin as Pattinson’s remarried mother, Kate Burton as Brosnan’s devoted assistant and an amazing child named Ruby Jerins as Pattinson’s baby sister. It’s going to cause many people to reconsider Pattinson.
