Entertainment Focus Coverage of the Remember Me UK Press Conference   Leave a comment

EF was fortunate enough to be invited along to the premiere of Robert Pattinson’s latest drama Remember Me, which is released in cinemas today. We caught up with Robert, his co-star Emilie de Ravin and one of the film’s producers Nick Osborne as they discussed the making of one of this year’s finest films.

Robert Pattinson had been looking for a new direction between Twilight sequels and literally read hundreds of scripts before picking Remember Me. He liked the naturalistic dialogue of the story and how the story dealt with grief. He also noted that this character starts and ends the movie as pretty much the same guy- it was a young part devoid of the usual Hollywood transitions when everything ties up nicely at the end. He joked that he doesn’t really like anything so picking a next project was easy. He clearly isn’t driven by money either so when the opportunity for Remember Me came along, he knew it was the right project. Robert also feels like these types of movies aren’t around very much today and saw a gap in the market to do such a narrative.

When asked if he feels that Tyler and Edward Cullen are similar brooding characters, he thinks that Tyler isn’t very broken or damaged at all, at least not how he saw him. He never felt that Tyler was brooding and that’s probably why Pattinson’s performance is so convincing here – it’s a character with no sense of pretention even though Robert admitted to liking Tyler’s audacity. Robert feels that the success of Twilight and indeed Lost will give Remember Me some publicity that will hopefully attract a bigger audience to the drama. I feel that it’s because of his other successes that Pattinson can take on roles like this and in many respects get a movie made that may struggle without his pulling-power. Remember Me also goes a long way to showcase Robert Pattinson as a serious actor and one that will have career longevity past The Twilight Saga.

On his co-stars, Robert loved the sense of humour and sarcasm of Emilie de Ravin. He also said that he finds her very funny when she doesn’t mean to be funny! This got a wry look off Emilie! He also joked that she can hold her drink and when they went out after the audition she downed something like 24 beers and still was stone-cold sober! Robert was genuinely chuffed at the chance to work alongside former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan too. He never thought that they would be able to get him to play the part of Charles Hawkins and according to Robert, Pierce managed to change the dynamic of his character with his natural charisma. He also loved working alongside Ruby Jerins who plays Tyler’s sister Caroline. Their relationship is a strong reason to why the film works so well. Robert said that Ruby could improvise with him for hours and acting came very easy to her. He also said that he has always wanted a younger sibling.

Emilie de Ravin has been a familiar face to thousands of viewers on Lost and Roswell. Remember Me finds her starring opposite the hottest young actor in Hollywood today and marks her first major leading role. Emilie was genuinely surprised at the turn out for the London premiere which found hordes of fans waiting for days to catch a glimpse of the cast. She said that the films script didn’t actually feel like a script thanks to its honesty and organic feel. She was also surprised to learn that Robert acted as executive-producer on Remember Me too. On her co-stars, Emilie cites Chris Cooper as a very giving actor who was a joy to work alongside. Her New-York accent is brilliant in the film and she admitted that it was important to get right as it adds layers of the character of Ally. When asked about the end of Lost, Emilie said that she felt bittersweet about it all even though it has been an amazing ride to take. Nevertheless she is feeling positive about the future and the projects that will hopefully come her way. She doesn’t want to pigeon-hole herself as an actress and she is well aware that you can’t please every fan which highlights the importance of always doing something challenging.

Co-producer Nick Osborne told us that Remember Me is a project which has been in development for the better part of 4 years. He, like Robert Pattinson, wanted the project to handle in a certain way and consulted with its star frequently. An element of the script that appealed to him was the story of a young man who wasn’t clued-up from the get-go but someone that finds what he wants throughout the story. He also told us a funny story about the Robert and Chris Cooper fight scene. Robert joked that he is too scared to get into real fights as people would like to kill him just because of who he is! Nick Osborne said that as Robert was preparing for the scene he turned around and saw Chris Cooper doing press-ups and felt genuine fear for Robert! He didn’t envy him that day. Robert also said that when he was filming the scene he was required to actually punch the stunt-man. He was told that he has a very weak punch which he said was an ego-deflator!

The press conference drew on some light-hearted general questions towards the end too. Robert feels that his natural accent isn’t quite regarded as London anymore and that he had an idea of Tyler’s accent from when he initially read the script. This voice never changed for him and that’s what we hear in the movie. I for one think his American accent is flawless and a few actors could take notes on Pattinson’s performance in Remember Me. Robert stated that he doesn’t really have any heroes outside of his family, who are his inspiration as are his friends. He also said that he is lucky to have a circle of friends who have grown up with him. He also feels genuine surprise when people regard him as a hero.

Then the press conference ended with a funny but bizarre question – what was Robert and Emilie’s favourite biscuit?! Emilie mentioned an Australian brand that no-one seemed to have heard of whilst Robert said that he was in America once and tried Chicken and Biscuits. He thought “why would they want to eat chicken with biscuits?!” But of course, in the States, biscuits are more like muffins and after he tried it he thought it was really nice! He said that the experience changed his opinion on what can be defined as a biscuit but if he had to pick a traditional biscuit it would be a Hob-nob!

Remember Me opens in cinemas today and I urge you all to catch it – its Robert Pattinson’s finest work to date.

"Remember Me" Press Conference Report by FilmShaft   Leave a comment

By: Martyn Conterio

Ever since Barnes boy Robert Pattinson smothered his face in talcum powder and put in a set of plastic fangs to play a veggie vampire in Twilight, the man has become the biggest heart-throb on the planet. After seeing thousands of screaming girls in Leicester Square, London for the UK premiere of Remember Me, one feels rather sorry for him. He may offer glib platitudes and thanks “to the fans”, but you sense deep down he just wants to get on with being an actor and not a celebrity. Remember the hullabaloo surrounding Leonardo DiCaprio after Titanic? Well, Pattinson is famous on that frightening level. Leicester Square (17th March) was vision of hell worthy of Hieronymous Bosch.

Hordes of Twi-hards blocked by barriers and security guards stretched out their arms clawing at “R.Pattz” like they were ravenous zombies excited by the prospect of fresh meat. There is no doubt that given the opportunity they would maul poor Robert Pattinson to death. Such encouraged frenzy and devotion is bizarre. The MC only had to say “Rob” and a grand choir of teens spliced the London air with a wail of screams utterly perplexing as it was damaging to the ears. They idolise R.Pattz and don’t care. One group of girls had been camping out in Leicester Square for 32 hours. How do I know this? They had a placard telling everyone. It is devotion bordering on religious mania. They are here to worship at the Church of Pattinson.

And yes, I had to wade through this jungle of sweating flesh and flash bulbs to attend the press conference, which was being held in the same venue after Emile de Ravin and Robert Pattinson introduced the film. Moments later they were in a tiny screening room greeting the gathered press for some questions and answers that started off stilted and ended up rather fun.

The immediate thing one notices about Robert Pattinson is his nervousness when confronted by the press. It’s all in the body language. He swivelled in his chair, would shield his face with his hands and look sideways to avoid eye contact when speaking, bite his nails or mess with his hands: a catalogue of telltale signs.

It’s not rudeness or arrogance, but a discomfort at the process of publicity. Maybe he’ll grow into it with time, but he exuded a great awkwardness to begin with before relaxing and being rather fun.

A major annoyance was caused by the PR people who warned the gathered press that there were to be no questions about Eclipse or Kristin Stewart. So if you’re expecting some fresh details on those subjects, well, there aren’t any. Sorry.

More after the jump!

PopSugar UK's Transcript of the Remember Me Press Conference in the UK   Leave a comment

From PopSugarUK

I was lucky enough to attend the London premiere of Remember Me and meet Robert Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin earlier this month. Rob and Emilie chatted about their film, their roles in Twilight and Lost, and lots more. In Part One of this series of interviews Robert reveals how he felt during the fight scenes, how he views father figures, his role in Bel Ami and his relationship with his friends and family. Stay tuned for the next installments!

On playing brooding types, and whether he’d consider a lighter role: “I did the kind of lighter stuff before Twilight came out, and it just so happened that Twilight’s become so much about the archetype of the brooding person. I mean I never thought that Tyler was that brooding to be honest [laughs], and then I just get it at every single thing, people saying, “brood, brood, brood” — I hadn’t even heard the word before Twilight! I guess I like to play broken and troubled characters because it seems more interesting, especially because I’m not that broken and troubled myself.”

On his new roles: “I’m doing something now [Bel Ami] that’s still quite dark, but the guy, his character isn’t so fractured, he’s just someone who’s incredibly focused and has a lot of confidence in himself, and nothing can shake his confidence. And then after that, I think there’s a kind of lighter thing as well. I don’t know, it’s not really that they’re angsty it’s just that joy seems to be more a universal emotion in script, it’s quite difficult — if you’re happy, you’re happy.”

On how the character of Tyler developed: “The script changed so much over seven months and just had loads and loads of re-writes. I tried to tailor things to what I was interested in, like the relationship with the dad changed quite a lot because I thought one of the things when you’re a young guy one of your biggest fears is this irrational fear of walking in your dad’s footsteps and living the same life as him. I thought, even if your dad’s a good guy, you just want to assert your independence on everything and it causes these irrational sort of rages.”

On his own fighting history: “I haven’t been in a fight in quite a long time, I think I’m too scared now. I think if I got in to a fight now, somebody would just kill me just for the sake of it [laughs]. I liked a lot of Tyler’s character, the rebelliousness and audaciousness of it, it’s like a fantasy of myself, like yeah, I’m the kind of guy who just randomly gets in fights. Yeah, I do it all the time. But, not really [laughs].”

On filming the fight scenes:
Producer Nick Osbourne: “I felt scared for you because the day you were doing the Chris Cooper fight, Chris was doing press-ups against the wall [laughs].”
Robert: “Yeah, he’s like unbelievably strong, he’s terrifying. And the fight I was having at the beginning I was doing it with this big stunt guy and I kept hitting this thing against the wall, next to his head. Then I was hitting him with what I thought was my full strength, I hit him in the head about four times and every time I hit him, I was like, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry’. And he’s like, ‘It’s fine, it didn’t even hurt’. Yeah, that was kind of an ego deflater!”

On his friendship group: “It’s nice that I’ve grown up with the same friends since I was 12, I have a very close knit set of them… I grew up with a lot of people who a lot of other people regarded as heroes, and no one ever came to me for advice, no one ever came to me for protection, and so I don’t ever really think I’ve been looked at as a hero.”

On who he considers his hero: “Outside of my family, I don’t really know. They’re great people and my parents are great parents, and they brought me up very well, I think. I don’t know, I think that’s about all the heroes I’ve had.”

New Pic and Info About the Remember Me Press Conference in London   1 comment

Yep, yesterday saw Leicester Square swarming with hormone-crazed girls squeaking and squealing for the scruffy delights of Mr Robert Pattinson (and breathe). Taking to the red carpet for new flick Remember Me, The Pattzy – as we’ve fondly come to call him – was an absolute gent, spending over an hour chatting to fans who’d been awaiting his arrival for THIRTY TWO hours… No, really.

Once he’d been prised away from his followers, Grazia shared 30 glorious minutes with the man himself. As Robert talked us through his role alongside the equally spellbinding Emilie de Ravin, his hair ruffling and self-deprecating jokes made us realise that he’s just a normal bloke who we’d love to have a pint down the pub with (among other things…)

For now, all the deets are top secret but never fear Pattz fans, we’ll be bringing you the full story (and video!) next week. But if you reeeally can’t wait that long, we have a little teaser to whet your appetite. So if you’ve always wondered what Rob’s favourite biscuit is (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?), we can reveal that it’s the beloved Hobnob which gets him going. So now you know.
