I first thought he was reading Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Upon closer look he’s reading Nine Stories by the same author.
You can order the book here: http://www.amazon.com/Nine-Stories-J-D-Salinger/

Hmmm, he clearly does not looked impressed at being hugged! Poor bb!!!
*look with your eyes~not with your hands* Thank you.
Thank you for another update on his reading.
This guy _reads_! He’s not just another ‘pretty face’ and this is so interesting, about him.
Another great aspect, is how gracious he can be with….. over-enthusiastic fans. -le sigh- Why do they invade his personal space like that?!? 😦
‘Alice’s Aunt’
I absolutely LOVE the fact that he reads!
And I completely agree about respecting his personal space. I don’t understand why they do that!
That book actually looks really good. I just re-read Catcher in the Rye recently. Favorite quote from that book:
“Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.” ~J.D. Salinger

Is that a canoe in his pocket?
….
OMFG! Just becasue he’s reading it you want to read it too. How patheitc, Salinger was around way before Rob.
I’ve actually read parts of that book already. From what I remember, it’s very good. 🙂
Actually some of us have read Salinger before. Some of us are very well read. Just a thought.
as the others have said some of us have already read salinger but i think its great if people get their minds opened up to books and authors they may otherwise not have heard of no matter their original reason for reading a book.i wouldnt have read the twilight saga if a friend hadnt recommended it.we all find books in different ways and im sure rob wouldnt mind that people may broaden their literary horizons because of him
I agree. I think it’s great that people will go out and buy these classics and read them. Although you cannot make me buy Independant People. I just won’t LOL
ah, originally titled for esme – with love and squalor. one of my favourite short story books ever.
I’m not a Twilight expert but promote movies at MovieSet.com. As a literature fan, I really enjoyed this post and wrote a companion post in which i explain a few things about JD Salinger you might enjoy. Also, we have a ton of Comic Con Twi-stuff to explore if you missed it..
Enjoy!

Thanks! I did read the article and posted a comment.
Cheers – hope i brought i wee bit of literary learning to the conversation. Maybe next, i’ll do a post about Kristen Stewart’s punk rock t-shirt collection 😉
Thanks for letting me share my tidbits of knowledge with you. Dropped a link back here from my Twilight news round-up post.

Ome, I totally found this post by googling my research paper book. That’s right folks, my research paper assignment is on Nine Stories by Salinger. Now I remember this pic and I just have to say “ROB! CAN YOU GIVE ME A THEME IN THIS STUPID BOOK?”
Careful Rachel, this isn’t a stupid book ;-). Rob can’t likely help you but i can a wee bit.
Nine Stories is (obviously) a collection of short stories rather than a novel so there is isn’t a “theme” per se. However, many/most of the stories revolve around questioning authority in one form or another including family expectations, societal pressure, class struggles and personal dogma.
These tensions often lead towards a theme of remaining authentic to one’s self rather than become “affected” by impressing others with wit, intelligence, wealth or other superficial attributes. Hope this helps and for goodness sake, read this book (and Catcher in the Rye).
wow. i was looking up quotes from salinger and ran across this site. i just happen to be reading nine stories as well. salinger is an amazing writer and this book is awesome collection of short stories. good for robert.
That’s great if there are peple who still enjoy reading. I mean, getting pleasure from the process or when you want to broaden your mind, find some answers…Or when you at some moment feel eager to read the book just because it’s you who want to do it. But not because the celebrity is noticed to read the one, and you are thinking like: “why don’t I go and buy ‘nine stories’ (or whatever), it’s so trendy to read what he reads”.
Urgh, that’s insane. No other comments could be add 😦
Wow I look good hugging Robbie! LOL jk
