“Georges DuRoy-who is he? How will the viewers see him in Declan Donellan and Nick Ormerod’s screen adaptation? Charming appearance, steel nerves of a card player, enchanting manners and a predator’s claws-this is Mr. DuRoy we imagine while reading Guy de Maupassant’s novel. In this new adaptation, he will be portrayed by Robert Pattinson-a young actor who has managed to prove the diversity of his talent to film critics thanks to films like “Remember Me,” “Water for Elephants,” and “Twilight”.But Robert has never had to play such a character. For an absolutely negative character, DuRoy is only “selfish, craving for wealth and fame.” He is the ladies’ favorite who never misses a single opportunity to start a new romance with an influential lady, promising him high position in society and money because “most often it is women who make men”.“Bel Ami” will make the viewers ask the question: “What makes a man step over moral principles?” the answer is claerly seen throughout the film. Paris at the end of the 19th century-is the time for intrigue and treachery; the period when to get a high position in society-you must play with cruel rules”.

Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod talk about Robert Pattinson with The Evening Standard 1 comment
The stellar cast didn’t come free but they did come cheap. Bel-Ami is, in Donnelan’s phrase, “an easyJet film”, with a paltry budget of around £7.5 million, Budapest standing in for Paris on 10 days of the eight-week shoot. Everyone worked for less than their usual pay cheque, including Pattinson.
“He read the novel and also a book I wrote about acting,” says Donnellan, 59, “and he insisted on four weeks of one-on-one rehearsal before we shot anything, which is unheard of in Hollywood. He wants to expand as an actor and he takes it very seriously. He has genuinely never said anything negative about Twilight but no one wants to be in a franchise for ever.”
Pattinson clearly relished the chance to stamp on the romantic image of Edward Cullen, and Ormerod’s camera picks up something lizardly and quite ruthless in his handsome features. “He was determined to keep it tough,” says Ormerod.“That’s why he did it,” adds Donnellan. “He said, ‘I’m playing a character with no redeeming features’.”

Christina Ricci talks about Robert Pattinson with The Irish Times “He’s wonderful” 1 comment
The fragrant Robert Pattinson plays the cynical accidental journalist whose adventures drive the plot of Bel Ami. They must have had some interesting conversations about the pressures that early success can bring. There are few idols more hotly pursued than the star of the Twilight films.
“He’s wonderful,” she says. “He’s handling everything very well. He never brought any of what he was going through to the set. He was always incredibly well prepared, very professional and a very great actor. I loved working with him. We joked a lot. Made fun of each other and had a great laugh.”
Did she have advice for him? “Not really. He seems to be handling it all very well. I can’t imagine being as famous as he is.”
