Naperville Sun: Naperville Families Welcome 'Twilight' Vampire   4 comments

You’re not supposed to invite a vampire into your house, but when Robert Pattinson of “Twilight” fame rang the doorbell of the Webster family’s Naperville home Tuesday, all decorum — let alone rules — went out the window.

Pattinson’s appearance was part of a taped stunt set up by producers of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” The actor made surprise visits to three Naperville homes that evening.

“Twilight” cast members from the movie franchise about teen vampires were in town to tape an episode set to air May 13. The Websters were one of the families who had requested tickets to attend the taping. Little did they know they would get a whole lot more.

Jeanne Webster and her daughter Colleen, a sophomore at Naperville Central High School, had been contacted by producers and told that no more tickets were available. Instead, the producers asked if they could set up a video phone in the Websters’ home Tuesday night so Winfrey could talk to them remotely during taping the next morning. The Websters agreed and settled in for what they thought would be a dull night of technical setup.

“At 9 p.m. the doorbell rings and we saw this huge light and we were just screaming,” said Jeanne. “We thought it was Oprah at the door. My daughter Colleen opened the door and it was Rob Pattinson at the door to wish her a sweet 16th birthday.”

Another Naperville family, the McAlpines, also fell victim to what would become a welcome prank.

Lisa McAlpine’s 13-year-old daughter Meggan had invited three friends over to watch the video-phone setup. They met a movie star instead.

“The poor man — they practically tackled him,” said Lisa. “I don’t think he’ll have his hearing back for awhile.”

“I was in a state of shock at first,” said Meggan. “I always think if I ever meet these people this is what I’m going to say to them, but all I could do was scream.”

At the Websters’ home, Pattinson stuck around for about 15 to 20 minutes.

“I had my glasses on and had taken out my contacts and had no makeup on,” said Jeanne. “I couldn’t believe it. He was really funny and answered all of (Colleen’s) questions. He was a real laid-back type of guy.”

Pattinson also handed out Oprah tickets, so Jeanne, Colleen and 17-year-old daughter Shannon attended the Wednesday taping, where they also got to see stars Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and Dakota Fanning.

“It’s been a crazy couple of days,” said Colleen. “I can’t believe it. The first thing that went through my mind was, ‘This cannot be happening to me.’ I was completely speechless for the first time in my life.”

El País: Surviving the Vampire   Leave a comment

Fame has made him live hiding and to go out only at night. Like his character in Twilight. Robert Pattinson detoxes himself briefly with Remember Me.

Robert Pattinson assures us that he has found the way to go unnoticed: grow a beard. “It works, the other day, in a bar, a guy told me that I looked like the guy from Twilight. That I had to go see the movie”, he explains. It pains us to tell him that is not so. He is wearing a baseball hat and a blondish beard. An antipaparazzi classic uniform that will hardly make him invisible. This 23 years old Londoner has had to digest fame very quickly. A few years back he lived out of the royalties from his small role as Cedric Diggory, the handsome guy of Hogwarts, in 2 of the Harry Potter films. He was a guy from an expensive school, with a stable family, that used to hang out in pubs and played the guitar. He was about to stop acting when he was called for a casting in LA for the highly anticipated adaptation to Stephanie Meyer’s vampire saga.

Maclean's Article on Robert Pattinson and Remember Me ***SPOILERS***   Leave a comment

Robert Pattinson, the smouldering star of the Twilight franchise, is the most besieged heartthrob on the planet, and you can’t blame him for being embarrassed by the adulation. He acts as if he’s been confused with someone else—which is true, in the sense that his fans seem to have him hopelessly mixed up with his Byronic character, the vampire Edward Cullen. He can’t leave his hotel room without being mobbed by teenage girls. Last week, when he showed up for a taping of The Daily Show, the screams from the teenage audience reduced Jon Stewart’s high altar of smart satire into The Ed Sullivan Show waylaid by Beatlemania. Which Pattinson seemed to find no less ludicrous than his host. But the more he sloughs off the attention with that twitchy, self-deprecating English charm, the more charismatic he seems. He’s Hugh Grant trapped in the body of a young Brando.

In an age of carefully groomed celebrity, Pattinson is a rare thing: the self-effacing superstar. The 23-year-old actor has good reason to feel sheepish. All we’ve seen him do is pose as an oddly chivalrous vampire in a couple of jejune vampire movies. There’s no denying his screen presence, and it looks like there may be a pretty good actor lurking behind the pretty face. But as his fame outstrips his work, he must feel pressure to prove it.

Robert Pattinson talks ‘Little Ashes’   3 comments

Here’s a great article about Rob and Little Ashes.

Never underestimate the power of fan frenzy. Director Paul Morrison made a small, highly literate film called Little Ashes, about a youthful relationship between the artist, Salvador Dali, and the poet, Federico Garcia Lorca, who met in Madrid in 1922.

Neither of them had fully defined themselves as the artists they would later become, and the film depicts their friendship as intense and ambiguous, with a strong homoerotic magnetism.

It is an art movie but Dali is played by Robert Pattinson, the haunted vampire from the Twilight series and he is currently the fan favourite of the world’s teens, so Little Ashes is attracting huge teen interest.

Robert Pattinson: ‘Twilight’ isn’t his only starring role   5 comments

General Pattinson: ‘Twilight’ isn’t his only starring role

by Rob Thomas

There’s a downside to being an actor who has become an “overnight sensation.” It actually didn’t happen overnight.

While everyone thinks he suddenly popped up on the scene because of that big hit movie, in reality the actor has probably been toiling quietly away at thankless, underseen, sometimes just plain embarrassing roles waiting for that big break. And, once that big break happens, the folks who own those little-seen before-you-were-famous films are only too happy to cash in.

That’s what’s happening with Robert Pattinson, best known as vampire heartthrob Edward from the smash hit “Twilight” and the upcoming sequel, “New Moon.” “New Moon” doesn’t come out until Nov. 20, so DVD companies know Pattinson’s fans are getting anxious to see him in action. And they’re only too happy to oblige.
