The Sunday Times: ‘Bel Ami’ Composer Shares All   4 comments

Sunday Times has a great interview with the composer for Bel Ami, Lakshman Joseph de Saram. Here a small excerpt. Read the full article at the source HERE:

There are two visits to London, the first to meet the film’s two directors, Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, to discuss “the tone” the music should take. The second visit is to attend the recording sessions of Joseph de Saram’s film score. The orchestra is assembled at Angel Studios and is composed of members of leading British orchestras. Both experiences – meeting the directors, meeting the musicians playing his music – are cruel tests of nerve. The completed, much revised, score is ready by December 2010.

The soundtrack is set to be released on March 20th: more info HERE

Bill Condon Explains Using ‘Flightless bird’ on the Breaking Dawn Soundtrack   2 comments

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Fans of the original “Twilight” soundtrack got a pleasant surprise when the recently released track list for “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” revealed that Iron & Wine’s melancholy ballad “Flightless Bird, American Mouth (Wedding Version)” was among the cuts.

Twilighters — who are no doubt gearing up for Thursday’s “MTV First” with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at 7:56 p.m. on MTV and MTV.com — will recall that the song made its “Saga” debut in the closing moments of “Twilight” as Bella and Edward shared their first dance. And according to Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon, the retread of this memorable number was an important reference for him to make.

“I always thought of this movie as the bookend to the first movie, and that was such a great powerful, romantic song for those characters,” he told MTV News during a phone interview last week. “It just felt right to kind of refer back to it at this important, important moment,” he added about “Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” the first of the two-part finale.

Of course, Condon wouldn’t reveal exactly which important moment this song will accompany in the November 18 film, leaving fans to wonder whether its delicate strains will find their way into the wedding itself or perhaps Mr. and Mrs. Cullen’s first dance as man and wife.

Condon did divulge, however, that the song is just one of many callbacks to earlier “Twilight Saga” films.

“[There are] quite a few,” he confirmed. “Musically, I would say at the wedding there’s a jazz quartet that plays a couple of tracks from ‘Eclipse.’ Carter Burwell has come back to do the score. He did the first movie, so ‘Bella’s Lullaby’ features in this movie too.”

Moral of the story: Keep your eyes and ears peeled for touching tributes to “Breaking Dawn” predecessors.

‘Breaking Dawn – Part 1’ soundtrack tracklist to be revealed on Monday,September 26th   2 comments

From HitFix:

Bruno Mars is making it “Rain” for the newest “Twilight Saga” film installment.
The singer/songwriter is the first confirmed artist for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack,” with the exclusive new track “It Will Rain.” The song will be revealed and up for sale on Sept. 27, same day as the soundtrack pre-sale, and the day after another massive unveiling.
The entire tracklist for the “Breaking Dawn” set will become available on the “Twilight Saga” Facebook page and Twitter on Monday (Sept. 26).
Mars made the announcement on his own website, with the single artwork, posted below.
Just this week, rumors began to swirl that the film’s co-star Robert Pattinson would be contributing music to the soundtrack. As we previously surmised, Muse may contribute again, considering the British band contributed tracks to all of the other sets.
And if Summit/Chop Shop/Atlantic want to keep a trend going, every song on “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” will be an exclusive contribution, meaning they’re songs or remixes unavailable anywhere else.
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” will be released on Nov. 8.
