Robert Pattinson dissection
At 26, (with a full set of teeth!) this “Twilight” vampire comes back as a trader in “Cosmopolis” and as a right Casanova in “Bel ami”. (And of course, he melts our hearts!).
Brain: Sharp, he’s aware that his trade prefers younger actors and is already considering his other options for the future. “I want to write” says this Francophile film buff, he’s an avid reader. He feels a connection with Michel Houellebecq’s characters And Jean-Luc Godard’s films.
Eyes: laser blue eyes! He has this serial seducer stare that allows him to impersonate the trader in Cosmopolis as well as the ambitious cad in Bel Ami, since his debut in Harry Potter in 2005 the British press has nicknamed him the new Jude Law.
Heart: spoken for by Kristen, his Twilight co star. They have been cryptic for a while about the nature of their relationship, a clever way of protecting themselves while feeding the suspense.
Smile: Pale. “My dad pushed me to take acting lessons to give me confidence. I hated the stage but once I saw the many pretty girls there, I assiduously attended.”
Ears: Musical! Piano from the early age of 3 and the guitar from only 5! More recently an interest in the cello has flourished in him. “I am a one-man band” he says smiling “Music has always been my plan B”. He also composes: two of his songs have been used in “Twilight”.

Facial features: Chiselled. Almost feminine! “As a child, my sisters used to dress me up as a woman and nickname me ‘Claudia’”. This (stunning) face enabled him to be regarded as an excellent choice to incarnate Salvadore Dali in “little ashes” in 2009.
Skin: Translucent ! Just like his Twilight vampire, he must flee daylight to escape the teenage crowds that track him down. “I live indoors, otherwise chaos ensues, I ‘d never imagined that I would become an idol for tweens. Sometimes I ask myself how far my patience will stretch”.
Name: Pattinson. Revealed by “Twilight”, he was ranked in 2008 by Forbes magazine to be amongst the 50 most influential celebs on the planet. Forename: Robert. We prefer to call him ‘Rob’. He has two elder sisters: Lizzy (a singer in the group Aurora) and Victoria (who currently works in advertising). Date of birth: 13th May 1986, in London (where he still resides to this day). Father: A car salesman. Richard specialized in American vintage cars. “My father has always been an artist that could never summon up the courage to put himself out there”. Mother: Casting director. Thanks to ‘Mummy’ (Clare) Pattinson manages to obtain him a contract at the young age of 12. Diplomas: none. “From 13 to 16 I was very lazy; I only started doing my homework at 17, and that was far too late”. First job: Model. “When I started, the ‘androgynous’ look was very popular, and it seemed to work! As soon as puberty caught up with me though, my career fell apart.

New Robert Pattinson Interview with Total Film – Talks Cosmopolis, Mission: Blacklist, The Rover and BD – Part 2   3 comments

Let’s talk about Cosmopolis. It’s a game-changer for you…
I saw it and I liked it. I don’t normally like my stuff but I didn’t really recognise myself.

How did David Cronenberg guide your performance?
We both started out not really knowing exactly what it was about but knowing it was interesting. I was trying to prepare for it, but the time it felt most right [while filming] was when you didn’t know what you were doing. David had this uncanny sense of seeing when I didn’t know what I was doing and that was always the take that he liked.

There’s a scene where you have an anal examination…
David told me that the shot was going to be from between my legs. He knew I was a young actor trying to look I was willing to do anything for the job. He was like, “I want to shoot it… and just cup the frame with your balls at the top.” I genuinely believed him and had to go to his trailer and say, “I dunno if I can do that…”

Was taking the film out ot Cannes a validation for you?
It’s amazing. I was so terrified to do it at the beginning and thought I was going to fuck it up and everyone’s going to say “Cronenberg’s sold out…” so to get it at Cannes is the coolest thing ever. Getting the movie, getting it to Cannes and getting the movie I got recently are three of the happiest moments of my life.

Speaking of the next movie…
I’m doing Mission: Blacklist with Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire who made Johnny Mad Dog. Hopefully that’ll shoot in Iraq, which will be fun. Then I’m doing Rover with [Animal Kingdom’s] David Michôd.

And Breaking Dawn: Part 2 – what can fans expect?
It’s one of the funniest ones out of all of them. I think Bill [Condon, director] has really captured the absurdity of it.

Will it be a relief not to go back to being Edward Cullen?
A relief not to put the contact lenses in. It’s been absolutely awful having those stupid things in my eyes. Even if they said, “We’ll give you a billion dollars to do ti again,” I don’t now that I’d want to!

New Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg interview with CTV News – Toronto Press Junket   1 comment

“Twilight” star Robert Pattinson may seem like nothing more than a teen heartthrob to his critics. But his detractors may change their minds after watching his risky performance in the new David Cronenberg film, “Cosmopolis.”

In Canadian theatres on Friday, Pattinson headlines this masterful and, at times, chilling adaptation of Don DeLillo’s 2003 novel, “Cosmopolis.”

True to DeLillo’s satirical work, the British actor plays billionaire Eric Packer, a young fund manager who experiences a meltdown one day as he cruises through Manhattan in the back of a stretch limo. As Packer’s trip to the hairdresser unfolds, he glides in and out of the lives of strangers, businesses associates and his wife Elise (played by Sarah Gadon).

Inside this strange world on wheels, Packer can access everything he needs: food, data about the stock market, sex, booze and a toilet. He even gets a check-up in the back of the limo from his doctor, who tells Packer, “You have an asymmetrical prostate.”

Some quotes – Read the full interview on the scans above

Sucking on a pink lollipop, the Twilight star signs a handful of autographs then saunters over. He’s quiet, unassuming…”

About the Cosmo premiere: “I was so nervous watching it…I couldn’t concentrate. Afterwards, I was a the party freaking out!”

“I’d been to On The Road, so I was like ‘My ovation wasn’t as long!”

“Sometimes you need to trick people. That’s all it is. It’s just a trick”

“After Little Ashes, I was done… I got Twilight afterwards, completely by fluke. I had no money, and I had to pay a tax bill.”

On Cosmopolis- “It really changed my confidence afterwards. I have signed up to a bunch of other stuff now which is quite ambitious & weird”

‘While Cosmopolis is very much an “all or nothing” movie, it probably helps that he’s with (Kristen) Stewart now. Even before Twilight, with films like Into The Wild, the 22 year old actress was something of a risk-taker.

“It’s nice to have someone who is really ambitious and has good taste”, Pattinson nods. “I’ve always liked my friends and people around me to be quite good pace-makers.”

“You don’t want to have a bunch of arse-kissers around. You want it to be a competition.”
