Christina Ricci is profiled in the Style section of London’s The Sunday Times today, in which she briefly mentions Rob:
“Based on the 1885 French novel by Guy de Maupassant, it stars the Twilight pin-up Robert Pattinson as Georges Duroy, an ambitious, amoral former soldier and social climber who ruthlessly seduces every woman who wanders into his life. Ricci plays Clotilde de Marelle, who becomes his mistress, while his other creamy conquests include Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Holliday Grainger.
She stopped short of offering her co-star, the much-hyped R-Patz, any tips about the tricky transition to adult movies. “Oh, he doesn’t need any help from me,” she raises her eyebrows. “He is doing just fine.”
Bel Ami: With the Twilight series now behind him, teen idol Robert Pattinson can afford to take a few risks. This is the world premiere of an unlikely new project: an adaptation of the Maupassant story about a young Parisian who seduces his way to the top of society, directed by theatre stars Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod. Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristin Scott Thomas join the fun.
The 62nd Berlin International Film Festival kicks off tomorrow, offering dozens (and dozens) of world premieres across mutliple sections. By the time the festival’s Golden and Silver Bears are handed out next weekend, we’ll have a good idea as to the world cinema that will come to theaters near you (eventually, that is — some of last year’s program is just coming out Stateside now).
In the past few years, the festival has proven itself — perhaps more than it has in some time — as an excellent platform for emerging and proven talent in world cinema to debut their work. Last year’s crop ended up gaining more Oscar nominations than the 2011 Sundance Film Festival’s slate.
Bel Ami (Declan Donnellan, Nick Ormerod, UK)
Not to the be confused with the brand of Eastern European gay porn, “Bel Ami” instead stars Robert Pattinson in another attempt to move beyond his “Twilight” fame. The period film adapted from the book by Guy de Maupassant follows a young man’s rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city’s most powerful women (Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci). Perhaps the most star-studded offering at the fest, it could be (campy?) fun.
Christina Ricci, Rob’s Bel Ami co-star, mentions in an interview that he’s amazing to work with, plus check out Bel Ami now up on the Berlinale programme.
Besides being busy with Pan Am, Ricci has finished filming the movie Bel Ami, which is based on French author Guy de Maupassant’s 1885 novel of the same name. Opening here on March 29, it also stars Uma Thurman, Robert Pattinson and Kristin Scott Thomas.
About Pattinson, Ricci would say only that the Twilight heart-throb, who plays the corrupt protagonist Georges Duroy, was an “amazing” guy to work with.
The Berlinale Programme is now online. Here is the ‘Bel Ami’ page.
On February 17th the passionate society drama Bel Ami celebrates its world premiere in Berlin. Star Feeling ensured, because leading actor Robert Pattinson will walk the red carpet together with his colleagues Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci to present the film. The movie starts on April 26th.
Here are some new Bel Ami stills featuring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci, Kristin Scott Thomas, Holly Grainger and Colm Meaney. The release date for Portugal is February 23rd, 2012.
VF:In March, there’s the release of her new film, BEL AMI, in which she has an affair with Robert Pattinson. Are you aware of being one of the most envied women in the world? C. Ricci:. I know, I know. Everyone keep asking me how is to kiss Robert. Like I said, he’s a good kisser. And I’m not being nice. It’s just like that.
