It is an April day in the year 2000 and an era is about to end. The booming times of market optimism — when the culture boiled with money and corporations seemed more vital and influential than governments — are poised to crash. Eric Packer (Pattinson), a billionaire asset manager at age twenty-eight, emerges from his penthouse triplex and settles into his lavishly customized white stretch limousine. Today he is a man with two missions: to pursue a cataclysmic bet against the yen and to get a haircut across town. Stalled in traffic by a presidential motorcade, a music idol’s funeral, and a violent political demonstration, Eric receives a string of visitors — experts on security, technology, currency, finance, and a few sexual partners — as the limo sputters toward an increasingly uncertain future.

Based on the novel by Don DeLillo. (Giamatti plays the dual role of Benno Levin/Richard Steers. / Production office opens Mid-March.)

Indiemoviesonline’s Cosmopolis Movie Preview: Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg   2 comments

It is, on the surface, the most improbable of creative collaborations. Teen idol Robert Pattinson linking up with David Cronenberg, regent of body horror cinema and the man who made Geena Davis give birth to a maggot in The Fly. Both men can be seen to be gambling, spying greater rewards ahead. But can an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis deliver the payoff each desires?

Pattinson and Cronenberg, Cronenberg and Pattinson – it is a combination which becomes scarcely less surprising each time you see it there before you. One is often cited as the greatest Canadian director of all-time and indeed one of the most important and influential in global terms too, with a Légion d’honneur and the Cannes Film Festival’s lifetime achievement award, the Carosse d’Or, amongst his galaxy of accolades.

Question of the Day: Who Would You Like To See Play Robert Pattinson’s Wife in Cosmopolis?   54 comments

Yesterday we found out that Kiera Knightley would not be playing the role of Eric Packer’s (Robert Pattinson) wife in Cosmopolis. We were a bit disappointed because we thought Knightley was perfect for the role. However things being what they are, it seems Robert Pattinson will have in a new co-star in Cronenberg’s adaptation of Don Delillo’s novel.

Our question for you guys today is who would you like to see play opposite Robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis?

Keira Knightley will not be appearing in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis”, the actress’s reps confirmed to us today. Knightley was brought into the casting conversation following some eagle-eyed fans seeing her name listed alongside star Robert Pattinson’s on the production company’s website. When the internet exploded with the news, her name was quickly removed and her reps declined to comment on her involvement until today, with a solid “she’s not in it”.

*VIDEO* Paul Giamatti Talks About Robert Pattinson And Cosmopolis   Leave a comment

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Earlier this week, Paul Giamatti was at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival to support his film, “Win Win,” a title that also aptly describes another flick the recent Golden Globe-winner has on his horizon: “Cosmopolis.”

Why is “Win Win” so fitting a description of Giamatti’s participation in “Cosmopolis”? Well, he gets work with director David Cronenberg and Robert Pattinson, of course!

After Giamatti, who stood with his “Win Win” costar Bobby Cannavale, admitted he was “not sure” when production on “Cosmopolis” would come together, there was one thing that was certain: he’d get to work with the “dreamiest man alive.”

“I get to stalk him,” a deadpan Giamatti said of getting to work on a set with R-Pattz. While Giamatti (who also divulged to MTV about his part in the highly anticipated “Hangover 2″) said he hasn’t yet met Pattinson he claimed (though quite possibly tracing the slightest hint of sarcasm there) to have seen the “Twilight” films.

As Pattinson explained to MTV News recently, he signed onto the project “basically because of Cronenberg.” “I said yes as soon as he called,” he added. “It’s scary, though. It’s an interesting script.“

“Cosmopolis,” based on the novel of the same name by Don DeLillo, is about a billionaire asset manager (Pattinson) who has a very bizarre day in Manhattan. Marion Cotillard was originally set to play Pattinson’s wife in the film, but has since dropped out of the project. Kiera Knightley is now being rumored to take over the part.
