GM: What do you make of the current vampire craze? It really shows no sign of abating.
SM: It doesn’t seem to be abating. It’s one of those unanswerable questions because when you think it’s one thing, it turns out to be another. … I think in the teen world, there’s a beautiful romance about that stuff. I believe this year the Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart characters [in the “Twilight” saga] have a baby. It’s this perfect romance, this perfect ideal. Ours isn’t quite as fluffy as that … our characters and the way that Alan works is, as soon as a character has a semblance of happiness, he digs a hole for them to drive into.
Do your daughters think you’re so cool because you work with Robert Pattinson?
My daughters don’t usually get impressed by people I’ve worked with because they’re just Dad’s friends. I think they’re just enamored I’m part of the whole franchise. Rob is just one of Dad’s friends
Are you amazed at what he and Kristen Stewart have to put up with?
I’m very proud of how they’ve handled it. It’s been fun for me to watch them rise to fame the way they have and the way they’ve handled it. When your life is put under a microscope like that it’s very difficult to function and I give them great credit for functioning and living a normal life within the realm of their fame.
As soon as I walked by 2 trailers I noticed Rob (with Strict Dean of course lol) walking out of one with his dog, Bear. It was really adorable -watching the two of them playing together. About a minute later I then noticed him starting to walk back to his trailer, which was when I walked over and introduced myself. We all shook hands and he said it was nice to meet me and my friends. He was so sweet and very courteous to us even though he did look a bit tired. We asked him for a quick picture and he said “sure!” My friend asked him how he was liking his stay in Toronto and he said “its been great!” We took our pictures, thanked him, he waved goodbye to us and he was on his way. ‘Twas a very quick but lucky meeting.
